I am really confused with the bible verse underneath the TENTMAKER logo, 'Jesus Christ, the saviour of all men, especially those who believe'.  Everything makes sense until I read the last few words,'especially those who believe'.  Could someone help me make sense of it?   :Chinscratch:

hi! It is UR belief that one can only be saved by "believing". So though "God is the savior of all" He is especially and actively saving those (now) who believe.. Ultimately (very) able to bring all to "belief".
God bless!!

The Greek word for "especially" is the same as in Paul's following request to Timothy:

Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come—and the books, especially the parchments. (2 Timothy 4:13)

Paul still wanted all of his books, even though he made special mention of the parchments. God is still saving all men through Christ, even though He makes special mention of the elect.

I interpret it as this:

Jesus is the Savior of all mankind.....everyone included......those who know Him and those who don't; those who read the Bible, and those who don't; those who try to live by His example and teachings, and those who don't, and so on. But, for those who follow Him, and live their life as a part of the Body of Christ, then to those people, Christ is especially close and He is the vine for them, they are the branches. They are His followers, His disciples, and to those, He is God. They are the first fruits of His calling.

It is as Jesus said to Thomas, when he doubted the other disciples reports of having seen the risen Christ:

John 20: 24 - 29
24Now Thomas called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord."

But he replied, "Unless I see the nail marks in His hands, and put my finger where the nails have been, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe."

26Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." 27Then Jesus said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe."

28Thomas replied, "My Lord and my God!"

29Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed."

We are the ones Jesus was speaking of, who believed, without seeing.

AMEN!!! to all the above answers  :dsunny:

Jesus said I did not come to destroy men's lives but SAVE THEM  :HeartThrob: Showing us the LOVE OF GOD ,,,and to do good , always choose the good , make tree good and its fruits  or make it corrupt,  a tree is known by its  fruit / doings /works /deeds,  obedience ect.
Whom are the trees of righteousness planted by GOD himself   starting  with the seed/WORD OF GOD    and root of Jesse [many scripture references] Isaiah 60:21
"Then all your people will be righteous; They will possess the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified.  , without Him we can do nothing !!

But when you go to do good evil is present    , the opposition  Jesus,   the light of the world  had with  the darkness of men's hearts , it will not be any different  for you , when you do good ,  a student is NOT above his Master ...

1Peter 4  Suffering as Christians
...16But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear this name.

17For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God;

and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

18 And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"...

19So then, those who suffer according to God's will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good....

Proverbs 11:31
If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner!

Luke 23:31
For if men do these things while the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

1 Timothy 1:9
We realize that law is not enacted for the righteous, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for killers of father or mother, for murderers,

James 5:6
You have condemned and murdered the righteous, who did not resist you.

Death is the result of evil /sin  , But  LIFE is GODS LOVE

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit !!!! if you love death you eat the fruit of your own doings  , but if you LOVE LIFE you are what YOU EAT!   Jesus even said  , Eat my body and drink my blood that YOU might have LIFE  in you .....

HE IS THE TREE OF LIFE  and  everything else  ...BEING   the WORD, and  IS spoken and the Spirit moves it into being truth ..  and truth stands when the lies fall away

proverbs18 The Unfriendly Pursue Selfishness
...20With the fruit of a man's mouth his stomach will be satisfied; He will be satisfied with the product of his lips.

21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

22He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the LORD....

Matthew 12:37
For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."

Proverbs 10:19
When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

Proverbs 12:13
An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble.

Proverbs 13:2
From the fruit of a man's mouth he enjoys good, But the desire of the treacherous is violence.

Proverbs 13:3
The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

Proverbs 21:23
He who guards his mouth and his tongue, Guards his soul from troubles.

Isaiah 3:10
Say to the righteous that it will go well with them, For they will eat the fruit of their actions.

Hosea 10:13
You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped injustice, You have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your way, in your numerous warriors,

Seems there is a theme  or flow with the WORD OF GOD as to understanding  His way of peace  and joy in the HOLY SPIRIT and the reward of the fruit of our doings ,and to pursue the Love of God  for all men that they to might be saved ...

Romans 14 The Law of Love
...16Do not allow what you consider good, then, to be spoken of as evil.

17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

18For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men....
Jesus is the reward  !!

I think a little ET fear crept in
In ET circles the word 'especially' is often given the meaning of 'that is'.
I'll just quote what I wrote about that a long while back.

QuoteEnglish is not my first language but I know (e)specially is not about excluding certain things. It's about emphasizing certain things.
"I like ice cream, especially lemon." Does that mean I don't like strawberry ice cream? No it just means I like lemon even more.

Quote2 Timothy 4:13 The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.

What does that verse mean according to you? Only take the parchments and leave the cloak and books behind?

I think it's clear it's not just the parchments. If so, why even to bother to mention the rest. It gets even more clear if you know cloak is a wrong translation and should be book casing/wrapper/cover. http://tentmaker.org/forum/word-studies/2-timothy-413-cloak-or-casing/msg170460/#msg170460
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...
