This is a beautiful verse but it is confusing. Is the Son given called Mighty God, Everlasting Father? I know Christ is the Son and not the Father. Please explain the apparent contradiction.
Hi, Deena, :gsmile: I’m not sure.. but looking up the verse in an interlinear word for word translation (app), I notice it says “His name will be called..” I never noticed that before.. I’m reading it in the sense of He will be called, by people..
https://biblehub.com/interlinear/isaiah/9-6.htm
Also, however, after resurrection, Thomas, I believe it was, called Him “my God..”
I’ve always assumed it’s because a prince comes in the place and name of the King. Also I’ve come to think of the word “God” almost as a family name.. And kingdom, like in the plant or animal kingdom, there are many.. but in the God kingdom there is the Father and the Son. So in that sense they share the titles..(?)
Thanks for bringing this up! I think I have a better understanding of it now!
God bless! :hiya:
Thanks Marie. I looked it up in the Concordant translation and it reads completely differently from NKJ. No confusion for me now.
That's awesome! Bless you, Deena! Hope to see you around here again! :girlheart:
I agree with MG that the word "God" is like a family name and that both the Father and the Son share that title. What helped me in understanding is seeing them as "attributes", what I mean by that is: That God is Spirit ---- and that Spirit is both a Father and a Son.
It is like looking at yourself, and if you have children then you are a mother ----- and also, because you have a mother, you are also a daughter, meaning: you are both a mother and a daughter.
God the Spirit is both a Father and a Son, this is what I understand when I read the words of Christ "I and the Father are One", in other words; "I and the Father are One Spirit".
In how I understand it, God is first a Father to us, and as a child we are disciplined in being taught right from wrong, but a child views that discipline as punishment, but then He came to us as a Son and now He is like an older brother who is trying to teach us (His sibling/younger brother), who God the Father is, that He was not punishing us, He was disciplining us because He loves us.
When I read the words "All in all", I see that God is what He needs to be at any given point in our lives, Meaning: He is a Father when He needs to be, He is a brother (A Son/The First Son) when He needs to be, He is a counselor when He needs to be, He is a comforter when He needs to be, etc. ----- He is anything He needs to be when we need it and when we understand this ----- He can become everything to us, He becomes "All" to us and not just as attributes anymore, but those attributes come to life and we come to realize that we can do nothing without Him because He "IS" our "All", He is the "All" in us, of which we come to understand what will take place in "all of us" by the work of Christ through His Spirit that:
God will not only be "all to all", He will be "All in all" and because of this, every knee shall bow and confess that He is our Savior and all authority will be handed back to the Father by the Son and we shall see Him as He is ---- a Son who is the Father who loves us, a Father who would die for His children----- "the One and only true God".

One of my favorite verses is when Jesus prayed "Father let them be one as you and I are One.."
This was a beautiful testimony to the power of GOD
Great question and wonderful answers bro Jugg and sis Marie ! .
and helps us to focus more on the connection .because Jesus said MY FATHER AND I ARE ONE gathering into ONE from all that was scattered abroad in the world ..
in John 5:19-20 (NIV)
19 Jesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself;
the WORD is only dead letters without the Spirit giving it Life and purpose . GOD IS SPIRIT
he / seed /word / substance of faith can do only what he sees his Father doing,[Holy Spirit ] because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
The anointed Word is moving by the power of the Spirit moving and making it a living Word that creates newness of life from dead things /letters .
20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed.
I see the WORD made flesh is a living breathing by the power of the Holy Spirit WORD/seed and substance and not dead letters any longer , because it is the Holy Spirit itself that gives it Life in us , one is not complete without the other and LOVE is the bond that holds it all together , as one Faith one hope and one baptism ONE GOD
eph 4 ;5 Unity in the Body
...4There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all....
1 Corinthians 8:6
yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.
Ephesians 4:13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ.
The Spirit is increasing by measures of the WORD that makes alive in us a continued gift of truth and grace , all from Himself as the LIVING BODY that Jesus Christ is the Lord /master of the dead and the living[resurrection power to raise the dead back to life from the dead ] to raise them all up as HE IS LIFTED UP from the earth /mortality in us and though us and by us and for us all as becoming ONE AGAIN . each letter that was dead becomes a living Word by the power of the Spirit of truth and life
IT IS THE SAME NAME that no one knows but the one whom receives it, a heavenly name , names written in heaven
...John 17:11
I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by Your name, the name You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one. I hope and believe by the Holy Spirit witness it is from those 12 that is spoken of here in Jesus prayer to the number no man can number being all in all ....
