Most people at least age 10 or more do.
We punish our children so that they will learn and not do the same wrong thing in the future
and face punishment again.
If punishment was forever...WHY? It's not like we will make that same mistake again or that we will
decide to go back and try to right the wrong.
If the punishment is eternal, what do we learn? That God is a sadist? and if we DID learn something,
what could we possibly do with that newfound knowledge, since our punishment doesn't stop?

Excellent point. I have found this use of the word punish almost hair-pullingly vexing. My pet peeve is capital-punishment. So, now what? You killed them, what did they learn? Not to do it again? Rest assured, they won't.
Maybe icapital punishment should be labeled "ultimate crime deterrent"? -I like that :laughing7:

A lot of people could, and would, argue that capital punishment is NOT a deterrent to crime. Given the number of people who seem to have a death wish, I would tend to agree with them. In fact, it has been put forward that we do crimes and horrible things precisely because we are mortal.
I meant that given the death penaly crime is deterred by it not recurring again by the same perpretator.
More than 85% are repeat offenders and it seems the victims, insurance companies, and the taxpayers all pay the bill to keep alive a murderer that God advises us to put to death. I resent people that have a rap sheet with more than 20 arrests and sometimes as many convictions that go through our revolving door system. Part of the crime problem is that our jail system is a much better life than in some foreign countries(TV, 3 meals, air conditioning, free medical and dental, library access, shower and laundry service, gymnasium equipment, Etc. people living on the street in America don't have it that good and are just as much, if not more susceptible to attack.

Do you think there are people who commit crimes to get into jail? I have a few friends who work at our jail and they say the crime rate goes up at around Christmas. They figure jail is a way of keeping warm for the winter. Do you think this might be a life-choice for some?
Yes VB I know it is. My professor knew a man from the US who "attempted robbery" with a gun at a bank. He kept telling the woman behind the desk not to worry, just call the police because he wanted to be arrested. The police arrested him and found the gun empty. He did that so he could go to jail and get the medical treatment he needed for his heart. :( So sad.

So, where is the local and visible Ecclesia? not universal and invisible, but LOCAL and VISIBLE! Why can men not find Christ? What has happened to us as members of His body that we are unknown to them? We are similarly unknown when we are supposed to meet as His body. As long as our God holds wrath forever, is an arrogant respecter of persons and retaining evil permanently; and, as long as how we meet is stuck, in ritual performances with priests or the reformation model with professional preachers, we are not developing the image of God unless it is outside the meetings. Individually or corporately, as the body of Christ we have answers for the people of the world. Though important, we can in some ways as individuals do very little. We are to meet as a body for Christ. If people can't awake out of their apostasy, where they're trapped in the traditions of men's doctrines and handed down practices, submitted to sectarian religious bureaucracies to perpetuate these things in defiance of God's Word, the result is the state takes on a messianic character, doing those things abdicated by the "church," replacing its influence with their own to raise up the false religious world against the people of God.
We are meant to come into the works Jesus saw the Father doing. We are to meet on the basis of each and every one of us maturing into "the measure of stature of the fulness of Christ." Things such as apostles, prophets, evangelists, miracle workers, healers, and the like, things that are the nature of Christ in us, these are stages we pass through as we develop into the the fulness of Christ. All Jesus was and is, did and does is in us because of His Spirit that has been given to us. Our measure of maturity is the extent to which we've become available to Him to reproduce His exact image through us. It is not how much we walk in various gifts of the Spirit, submitting others unto us; rather, our measure of ministry is the extent to which we raise up the image of Christ in others and their knowing subjection unto Him. The Holy Spirit is meant to be the authority in both our individual and corporate experience. What the "Lordship" of Christ is to the individual believer, the "Headship" of Christ is to our gatherings.

So, would you say we should go into the world armed with bibles and bread, and give freely of both?

IMO, This is an absolutely critical word in the NOW. "Today, if you hear His Voice".........
