Last night I had a disturbing conversation with a Baptist christian friend.
I said, "We don't have to have church meetings on Sunday."
She replied, "The Bible teaches us that we are to worship on Sunday."
I asked, "What scripture teaches that?"
She answered, "We are taught by example, as the early church met on the first day of the week to commemorate the resurrection."
I contended that I knew of no scripture that teaches or commands that churches meet on Sunday.
I have searched, but I have not found what my friend was talking about. :dontknow:
Can anyone help me sort through this? :sigh:

She may have been referring to Matt 28:1; Mark 16:2; Luke 24:1... all three are discussing the resurrection events... and also Acts 20:7 which discusses the disciples meeting on the first day of the week to break bread... all very interesting MIXTURES... always, just enough truth to encourage one to believe and just enough error to confuse!!! Oh how we need the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth...
It is just so easy to get caught up in teachings, which is ok if they are sound.
God created us as social creatures.
By nature we follow a leader, as do wolves, dogs, bees, and certain others.
We are programmed to seek comfort and gratification.
We are programmed to presume, discern, use precedents, use logic, and react by trained response.
That is why it is so important to be in tune with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Without Him, we will get into all kinds of trouble!
I was thining the other day bout it..the sabbath,sunday worship. And it occurred to me that as the gospel spread to the gentiles
and other territories..they would not have access to the temple.Even those who beleived in Jerusalem..nd lived there..
if visited temple..would be releagated to outer court. Reminds me of distinctions..of man in rich garment getting the good seat
and relegating others to lower status.
I take the scriptures aabout letting no man judge you in regrd to a religious festival..etc to heart. All things are lawful
but not all things are convenient. The part that bothers me..is the 'sabbath" keepers pointing the finger at those who
don't..and judging them..as heretical. People like to keep certain parts of the law,to elevate themselves and lower/condemn
those who don't.... I once heard of a mn..that kept a blue tassel clipped on to his belt buckle.....as he walked bout with
cowboy hat and boots on. :Chinscratch: A lot of weird 'religious' minded do-dads associated at times. Which,if he wnted tht
he was free to do so..as long aas he didn't condemn those who didn't imo.
It is usually easier to get off sunday from work..but that too is changing. more expediant for the gentiles....
these commandments of men...that don't serve anything useful in the control of the lower impulses....I find pretty tiring.
there is a cult out west..where the women were dresses to the ground,no make-up..hair up and covered..but it didn't
stop the old lecherous men..from taking the young girls as multiple wives...seems their own lust was incited even more
then the unbeleiving people around them.
Reasonableness to not stumble other beeivers,is called for..but my freedom in Christ was hard bought..and I have no
compulsion to make myself a slave to the commandments of men.

Some one was asking me earlier today , they were considering going to church , because the are having so much trouble in their lives
I told them thats fine , if you feel lead to go , but for me I say ''cut out the middle man '' and just strat praying directly to God for your help , in Jesus name mountains can move , if you have faith that He will do it .
Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
there is a mountain of Blessing and cursing
always wonder if that mountain was the moutain of ''cursing '' Jesus wanted us to cast into the sea perhaps
Six of the tribes were charged to stand upon Mount Ebal -- Mountain of Cursing. Deut27:13
Reuben - Gad - Asher - Zebulun - Dan - Naphtali
So which mountain would you prefer to be thrown into the sea?

these following verses, i think, also support that conclusion..
Jesus as our "Rest" - thus as our Sabbath..?
In Hebrews 1:1-3 and 4:1-10, the writer wrote to early Jewish believers (as opposed to those of their nation who did not believe/obey the "faith" of the Old Covenant in the days of ancient Israel):
1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. 3 He is the reflection of God's glory and the exact imprint of God's very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, ....("it is finished")

:gsmile: As fruit "in the vine" (Jn 15) the fruit rests on the vine.. absorbing light and nutrients, and thus grows.. it doesn't struggle (work) to grow..
Being like Paul wrote,
"O foolish Galatians! who has bewitched you.. did you recieve the Spirit through works of the law, or by faith? ..having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?"
