One can, without any compassion, 'win' an argument and clearly display one's rightness, and in the process alienate the other.  One guy was wowed by a guest apologist speaker on campus who crushed every objection presented to Christianity (and humiliated one questioner in the process), only to, as the crowd was dispersing, overhear a girl say, 'I don't care if he's right-- he's still a jerk.'  That overheard remark almost got the guy totally disillusioned with apologetics.
People are fragile.

That sounds apocryphal, I wouldn't be surprised if there are versions of the story set in different states and even different countries and sometimes the girl is a boy and and sometime the guy is even a gal.
