Hello all, I was wondering how to view the following parts of Psalm 140 with a UR perspective.
Psalm 140 verses 8-13:
8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.
9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
11 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
For myself, when I look at any of these types of verses, I keep in mind that these are the temporal judgments given to men in the flesh. Also, in particular, when speaking of such ones as not rising up again, or the wicked being no more as David wrote in another psalm, etc, these to me are speaking, not of the people themselves, but of the KIND of people they are.
The wicked will not rise up, not because they are in these figurative deep pits of fire forever, but because they undergo change through his judgments, and the one who comes out of such judgment is then righteous, no longer wicked.
