Is the book of Revelation in anyway supposed to be prophetic?

We are probably all well aware of the Fundamentalists who come with tidings of doom and can quote Revelation pretty well. amd turn it into some absurd horror story.  Many make the claim that we are already through the 1st or 2nd part of Revelation.  Is that book in anyway going in some type of Chronological Order?

I've been studying the book of revelation for a long time and learned a lot from it.

If the book did not exist, you could still make a case for the various events happening in any case, because other books teach the same things taught within it.

Is it in chronological order? yes and no

It takes skill and practice but some of the events happen at the same time as each other, which makes it impossible to write in a chronological order. John focuses on one aspect, then he turns to another event that happens roughly the same time.

I know how you feel about the doom and gloom, it is upsetting, but this is what is written and will one day come to pass.

When it is time you will know, don't listen to the false prophets who say woe woe the sky is falling, when the time is at hand, as long as you keep close to God you will know when it begins to come to pass.
From what I've learned there is more time left than what some propose.

I clarified the previous statement.

I wouldn't say "formed" so much, I believe that happened within him leading up to the cross.  We were forming within him and poured out of him upon his death . .the blood and water from his side . . .for 40 days he walked on the earth after the resurrection . . .to me, 40 is the number for birthing as it is 40 weeks for a woman's gestation from conception to childbirth . . .at the end of the 40 days, Jesus ascended, perhaps you could say those 40 days birthed the spirit of ascension into the bride . .then 10 days later . . .number of law . . . the Holy spirit blew in and established the covenant that Jesus manifested without, and transformed it to be a new covenant to manifest "within" every one of us.

So for the bride to be forming now, again, for me . . .doesn't really fit as much as perhaps I'd say she's "maturing".  It's all about intimacy.  Any kid can make babies, but only a mature adult can have the wisdom to parenting.  I think what we're seeing is the bride is maturing from puberty into adulthood. 

When she can begin to reproduce the true nature of the Son rather than pursuing the rush of the acts of intimacy such as following just the signs and wonders, but actually manifesting them herself, then we'll see the merging of spirit and flesh becoming one as the Head, which is Christ, becomes one with the body of Christ . .which is us.
