Why did the Jews slaughter many types of people in the Old Testament?

In the book of Deuteronomy, and Joshua many nations are slaughtered, such as the Hittites, Hezbonites, amorites, and some other near eastern peoples.  Why is it only the Near Eastern civilizations who are slaughtered?  We never see any European, Asian, African or New World Civilizations being destroyed.  Is there something about the context of the time?  I know that in the ancient world, it was not uncommon for one civilization to make an empire and take over other civilizations.  Rome, Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Persia, India, China, and Mesoamericans.

They slaughtered those that the Lord gave into their hands. It was the plan of God. Other than His plan, they miserably failed.
In the natural so it is in the spiritual as it still is the plan of God and we are still blazing the trail to the promise land.
There are many fine teachers that can lead you to the answers of the many questions you have that take more than a quick response on a forum board to answer.
Some of these questions take time, meditation and an enlightened understanding to hear. We have all witnessed what the carnal mind can do with the things of God.
If you care, I like Preston Eby, Peter Demetris of Light of the City and Joyce Morris of Lord of Life Ministries and there are others too that the Lord may use to lead you to Himself.

There are also accounts of wicked Jewish rulers slaughtering their own what they considered their lessor brethren,
anyone was fair game even other Jews if they in anyway were even thought to pose a threat to the wicked rulers authority
( such as King Harod Slaghtering off all the male babies up to two years old ). Also because of their Jewish system of religious laws  stoned their own pophets to death because it appears They thought God demanded it just as  they did with people of other non Jewish Nations, their God told them to. They the Jews even wared against the Israelites after the kingdom of Judah divided away from Israel which brought about two kingdoms, the kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah. that war in many ways flesh wise is still raging on today between Judah which is the house of the Jews and Benjiman wars agasinst the rest of the other ten tribes which made up the Kingdom of Israel.  Most of the Levites abandoned their former estates which was a part in each tribe, sold all they had and went South.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable.

Hard, wicked hearts.  The same reason people murder others in the name of God to this day.   I don't think God ever told his people to murder anyone even before Christ came.  God doesn't change.  His laws don't change.  The commandments of God are clearly against murder.  It makes absolutely NO SENSE that God would order his people to break His own laws.  But it is common for people to believe God has told them to do such things - even now.

Actually that's something that had always struck me odd in that it was clear that Israel was not to sacrifice their own children . . .yet that's what Abraham was instructed to do.  Yet no one questioned Abraham for hearing the voice of "another Christ" like you hear people accusing us of such things now.  What was so difinitive about that voice that Abraham didn't flinch at the idea that satan was attempting to be an angel of light at that moment.

Yes, and even more interesting to think about is that according to the story it is GOD ALMIGHTY who told ABRAHAM NOT TO DO IT!  Either there are two voices in the OT claiming to be God OR God cannot make up his mind.  I think there are two voices in the OT - one of them a lying voice that is not the true God.  That's my conclusion after many years of thinking about these things.

Actually, the New Testatment states that Abraham figured if God ordered him to kill his son and he did it, then God would resurrect him.  There's not really any indication that it was not God instructing him.  Lest we forget, God knows the end from the beginning.  He knew he'd stop Abraham before the deed was complete.  It was the birthing of the father of faith . . .which is what Abraham became noted for.

To the original question asked that opened this thread, I believe the reason why the people to be killed by the Israelites were the ones selected by God,was due to the fact, they were the descendants of Canaan.  It was the fulfillment of the curse Noah put on his son who exposed his nakedness.

The promised land, which we are, was occupied by enemies that must be overcome.
The Phillistines are our 5 senses, the Hittites (mixture), Amorites (imaginations), etc. are other inhabitants of our land that are not of God and must be overcome by Christ in us.

The beautiful thing about that is, it's not our battle to fight.  We simply walk in obeident silence as the spirit brings down the walls ON THE SEVENTH DAY . . .the Sabbath is come.

Understood.
Surely, you must go back to the very beginning to follow the plot of any story.
And of the greatest story ever told we are all the participants.
This servant has not the ability within the confines of a few mere lines to answer 6000 years of creation.
Suffice it to say that just as Joshua defeated every enemy in the land, so shall we.
Joshua crossed the Jordan (death).
I can tell you this dear one, you will be abundantly blessed, with your singular desire, when you read the writings of brother Preston Eby.
Joyce Morris is my friend at Lord of life Ministries.
Peter Demetris at Light of the City Ministry is also a Blessed Voice.
Truly, God will give you the desires of your heart.

It's one of the things not given through flesh and blood but only through the revelation of the Father . . "Upon this rock I will build my house . . . it's the common thread through the new temple that God is building by using people as living stones.  Take it in faith, understanding will birth as you grow.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God; bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

To be double minded is also a state of being where the carnal mind is making decisions the spirit should be making- two minds are not always better than one :)

Oooooh . . .I like that as well!  Mixing spiritual truth with natural wisdom is being double minded . . .  that will definitely preach!!!

Spiritual truth does not come by way of flesh and blood.  It's the rock Christ has built his church on.  It's kind of like new age in that there's no organized, clear-cut explanation because the principles that govern it are the opposite of the principles that govern "this" realm.  In fact, people will peg it as new age because they aren't understanding it.

Natural wisdom is the result of us relying on our logic and reasoning.  It's the result of us applying the labors of our minds to Scriptures, prophecy, any communication from God really.  The reason why this can lead to a downfall is because our minds can easily be deceived.  Our minds are at war with (enmity) spiritual things.

I wonder if the ''word'' nations ..........really means ''imag i NATIONS'' in the carnal
mind?  I really wonder if they did not misintrepret what God was saying or was mankind
so dumb that he had to act it out ''first'' in the ''natural'' Now you know He who
is the .....''''same''''  YESTERDAY, TODAY, and TOMORROW would not just tell people

to go KILL other people.

He teaches '''us'' to love.........

If we read in lst JOhn we read where loving ''like'' cain is compared to murder.

That love is false; not real and is the kind that '''killed'' Jesus.......it is the kind'
that killed cain's brother able.......

The i magi nations however are things ''' in us ''' that are not like His Nature.
