Would the Jews have rejected Jesus had the Pharisees not been in the way?

I have been wondering if the Pharisees brainwashed the Jews in all this legalism that when Jesus came, they were stuck in all these rules and regulations that they were unable to see the true Jesus. 

Thats what I think is going on in the churches today.  It seems like they care more about doctrinal conformity, the correct rites and practices and making up all these extra rules.  Yet most of the people who act like this are extremely loveless.  I notice that on the Internet, both Catholic and Protestant forums will attack anything for universal salvation, and will not even consider the possibility and scoffing it as nothing more than some dangerous heresy undermining sin.  I believe many people would not be so close minded of a Triumphant Jesus had they not been brainwashed by these churches.

Hi UC, I was born and raised a Catholic. Then a funny thing happened. I got saved. :)
Probably the best thing we can do for these people in debates is to show God's love to them. Of course sometimes it gets hot. I have from time-to-time gone after the leader of a message board because I perceived he/she was the one keeping the rest in darkness. But like Beloved Servant wrote "Only the Lord opens one's ears and eyes to divine revelation." 

I have found it best to keep our emotions in check and expose their unbelief with love and kindness.

its the Lords mercy and   His Spirit that changes anyones mind and heart
