Need some input on the rest of this section

Isa 26:9  With my soul have I desired you in the night. Yes, with my spirit within me will I seek you earnestly; for when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

I have seen this quoted quite a bit by those of us who see God's judgments as ultimately beneficial. However, I don't know that I have ever seen this next verse explained with it. At first glance, it seems to speak of the wicked not learning righteousness, as though the one who learn righteousness in verse 9 are not the wicked.

Isa 26:10  Let favor be shown to the wicked, yet he will not learn righteousness. In the land of uprightness he will deal wrongfully, and will not see Yahweh's majesty.

Any thoughts on how this verse 10 can be understood in light of verse 9, and with God's redemption of all in mind?

For me, to see this spiritually, is to apply it inwardly.  When God judges my earth, the earthy things in me, it manifests righteousness.  God, in my eyes, never set out to destroy men, but he destroys the man in men.  From our human perspective, we measure God's grace according to the abundance of natural life.   I live here, therefore I'm greatly blessed.

But what if life is not the measurement to be used for God's righteousness?  What if death on this earth isn't the ultimate judgment to a man's sin?  Is it not just the end of one phase of us and the introduction of another?

I see these verses to say that when judgment comes to my earthiness, righteousness is revealed to my nature.  Then the next verse speaks about when God brings that righteousness to the man in me, if I'm living according to my flesh, then I can't see it as righteousness, I can't understand how it can be righteousness because I can't get past the judgment of what he did to my earth.  The land of uprightness for me is the kingdom that Jesus taught about.  It's why we're saved in the first place.  So that we can "see" the kingdom of God.

If I walk according to the flesh, I can not "deal" rightfully in the kingdom.  Which is to say, if I walk according to  my natural reasoning, I will then deal wrongfully with kingdom principles and can not see the majesty of God's handiwork in me.  All the while, he continues to bring judgment to my earthiness for the purpose of enabling me to experience his righteousness.

I agree with Nathan, 

I sometimes point to the account of Saul / Paul in issues like these.


In a sense Saul was favored,  because he could not escape falling into the hands of the living God.  This is indeed a spiritual picture,  Saul will never learn righteousness, never enter the kingdom and will be erased, but Paul is the result of God as a consuming fire.

This is why people get messed up when reading the bible!!

Stop reading the dead Ancient Elizabeth language!! It's so different, it's like trying to read spanish, sure some words sound familiar but that doesn't mean they are them, here read this is modern english...

Yours IS the KJV that someone simply changed a couple words...Literally.

So whats the difference about copywritten scripture, does that cause historical inaccuracies?

Seriously, if you choose poor translations based upon copyright, you really have other issues going on besides truth seeking, so nevermind my comments, obviously you care about what you desire not what is truth.

I also highly recommend the NASB, same KJV transcriptes that have a sense of heritage but definatley more accurate, more literal and definatley study worthy...
