QuoteI got this impression, all at once, no words used, but if spoken it would be along the lines of "The churches as institutions are turning people away from God. The truth is not to be found in them or their dogma or their teachers. You can only really find the truth in yourself." And, "Do what I've told all of you in those Two Great Commandments back then, concentrate on doing them in the here and now, and TRUST IN GOD. It will be all right eventually. Don't concern yourself so much with the afterlife; you are MINE and I will not be angry with you forever for your imperfections. You will suffer, but you are Mine. Stop worrying so much about other people and religions; all people are Mine."
Beautiful!! I feel it too, HeyJude!!

Cardinal,
do you regularly use that name instead of Jesus?

:cloud9: I suppose I try to be sensitive to my audience. Some people are offended automatically if I use Yeshua instead of Jesus, assuming I belong to some group they are offended by. Some I deal with, are offended by using Jesus.

He freed me from feeling I HAD to use one particular one, as soon as the motive of my heart towards it was not to offend my brethren (a lot of issues I find are resolved that way ie. Paul's comment about being all things to all men). There are also those that use it to "beat" non-users up with. God is all about the motive of the heart, and we have to be conscious of what our motive is constantly, else the adversary will find a place to stand in us (in fleshly attitudes).

As a doctrinal stand, obviously His name in Hebrew is Yeshua, or Yahshua. Names are not just names, but from a spiritual standpoint, when given by the Spirit, and spoken with the spirit in us, act as a prophetic declaration about the nature of the name spoken.

Probably more info than you wanted, but this is my  :2c:, LOL.......blessings....

Cardinal,
Feel free to PM me on this, I'd love to hear more about it. I do understand that our motives are important; some use names to attack others, I believe I've done so myself in the past.  :sigh:

If you feel like it, I'm open to it. (Or you could start another thread, it might be of benefit to many here!)

The part about "beating people up" with a certain name. I think it is a real issue, and merits a thread.. Also, to give others here space to express their experiences, not to retaliate, only to expose what many have felt..

:cloud9: Well, my point was, that I have witnessed people using what name you use, as a point of division and derision.  :sigh:

As I said, He freed me in that area in a couple of ways. One; (y'all put down the stones, LOL  ) that, I don't have to use the name of Jesus/Yeshua in a superstitious way anymore. Before anyone pounces, let me explain.

One day when I was praying the Lord impressed on me, that during the ministration of the gifts thru me, if He is telling me what to pray and I speak only what He says to speak in that regard, to whoever I am praying with, then incessantly saying "in Jesus name" at the end of everything sentence from Him, is sort of redundant, because name and nature are the same thing, where HE is concerned.

So if I am praying and speaking by virtue of the gifts in manifestation, in His revealed perfect will, which IS His nature, then He as the Spirit is praying His will thru me. Essentially, it is the difference between the servant realm and the son realm. When you have Him revealed to you in the Kingdom authority that in reality resides in each one of us, then the revelation comes that reveals the King can decree out of His Kingdom, speaking those things that are not as though they were.

It's the realm of the beginging of the perfecting of the faith; the gifts operate thru His Spirit which IS love. This is one reason why faith without works is dead, because His Spirit manifests a level of His love thru works, the works of the Spirit. My  :2c: Blessings....

Cardinal,
Can you explain the part about "superstitious use" of a name? I think I know what you are referring to, I just would like to elaborate on it..
Thanks..

(I think we're into another thread here..)

Just a little tid bit.

The term "religion" has been pervertedly popularized to cover much that is absolutely unknown to the word in Scripture.  The term thrêskia, ritual, occurs four times ( James 1:26-27; Acts 26:5 ;Col 2:18 ) and thrêskos, ritualist, once  ( James 1:26).  Ritual denotes the outward  form of divine service, such as the rites and ceremonies, ordinances and statutes of the sacerdotal system given through Moses  ( Lev. 26:43,46; Num. 9:3; 36:13)  while a ritualist is one who conforms  to and practices this ritual.  The Scriptures also use the words religion ( Acts 25:19)  and religious  ( Acts 17:22).  They are derived from the Greek deisidaimoni , which literally means DREAD-DEMONISM , and denotes the superstitious veneration and worship of demons through dread and fear.

Besides of that it's meaning has changed vastly over time.
Once did mean something like: Finding the way back. Get rejoined. Etc.
Basic religion means the creation getting 'linked'to the Cretor again.
Isn't that what the whole Bible basicly is about?
Seperation at the fall of Adam and Eve and then working towards a all-in-all reconnected state.

:cloud9: I mean the example I used. There is a time when we can actually use HIS name superstitiously. I've seen some people use IT like almost like a "magic word", without having the RELATIONSHIP to back it up. Paul talked to people he came across who had erected a memorial to the "UNKNOWN God", ie. they didn't KNOW Him personally, and therefore told them they were superstitious.

Another example is the seven sons of Sceva who were casting out devils IN HIS NAME, but had no personal relationship with the PERSON of the name, to back it up, so the demons in the man beat them and sent them back black and blue and bloody.

I could say "in the name of Jesus" all day long, (and even as a believer for a season He'll allow it to "work") but without relationship to back it up, nothing IMMEDIATE is going to happen, most of the time. We all go thru a "honeymoon" stage for this reason, where it seems like everything we ask is done quickly and without effort almost. Then things get tougher. He does this to make us keep pressing in, and maturing.

This is one reason why prayers go unanswered. Ever wonder why the apostles got their prayers answered immediately and for all to see? They had RELATIONSHIP which brings ANOINTING. The servant realm cannot speak and it be done. The son realm touches into that authority which comes from relationship. There are 3 levels of prayer, and these that I am speaking of now, are the first 2. Blessings....

Hi all,
A statement I read in a writing by Hannah Whitall Smith called, The God of All Comfort, (ch. 2) goes like this:

"But is this all His name implies, simply I am ? I am what?—we ask. What does this I am include?

I believe it includes everything the human heart longs for and needs. This unfinished name of God seems to me like a blank check signed by a rich friend given to us to be filled in with whatever sum we may desire. The whole Bible tells us what it means.

Every attribute of God, every revelation of His character, every proof of His undying love, every declaration of His watchful care, every assertion of His purposes of tender mercy, every manifestation of His loving kindness—all are the filling out of this unfinished I am.

God tells us through all the pages of His Book what He is. I am, He says, all that my people need : I am their strength ; I am their wisdom ; I am their righteousness ; I am their peace ; I am their salvation ; I am their life ; I am their all in all.

This apparently unfinished name, therefore, is the most comforting name the heart of man could devise, because it allows us to add to it, without any limitation, whatever we feel the need of, and even exceeding abundantly beyond all that we can ask or think."

(I just posted this same quote a few days ago on another thread; sorry if I repeat myself..)

What I get from this writing is that God can't be pinned down to a name.

Now I've been drawing near to this notion; then I step away; then I re-examine it again. Because a part of me believes, in all honesty, that God has no name. We on Earth use names to distinguish one person from another; we look at outward appearances (short, tall, dark, straight hair, etc..) in order to distinguish oneself from other people. But when we leave this world we probably won't have any of these attributes anymore. In fact, I think that one of the first things that a person thinks after death (if we believe that we are merely transformed, and not "sleeping,") is, "what do I look like?" We look for context and comparison in order to make sense out of things around us.

Another problem with names is that they, quite simply, start wars.
Now without getting into a discussion about whether war is good or not (some would say that if God starts a war then it must be good..), I'd like to just bring to mind how many human wars have been started "in the name of (fill in the blank)." I'm referring to "petty" wars of governments, religions and fleshly interest. Often for a name.

Now my ambivalence stems from this: many verses in the Gospels quote Jesus as saying, "in My name...." Some people (including Whitall Smith, above) claim that "in my name" in the scripture means, "in my nature."
If that's true, then maybe we're on to something.
If it's not true, and Jesus meant that we are to use the name J-E-S-U-S, then I guess in some ways we're back at square one, and the only way that the world will know that Jesus was truly the Son of God will be by personal revelation. And that revelation must come from Him, not from any of us. But it certainly doesn't look unique "from the outside," because most religions tend to use a certain name in order to "distinguish" it. (And useful to pigeonhole others with.)

True or not, we may never know for sure in this fleshly life. But the desire to know it is certainly there!!!

Blessings to all here,
Brian

To be more precise,
I think that even if we only stuck to reading the Old Testament, we would find, if with a pure heart, that the name Jesus encompasses all our heart's desire.
In fact, the first Christians had no NT!! And here we are, 2000 years later, debating on this and that...!

Love to all,
Brian
