I would think it is a combination of those things (satan and your worst fears) but I can't claim to know for sure, it's just a guess from different Bible passages and my own experiences. I don't think a spirit can take over your mind by putting thoughts in your head. I think you can let a spirit control you by believing it's lies and doing the thoughts it tells you to do. But again, that's my own opinion and I can't say for sure whether it's 100% accurate.
Just my  :2c:
(I think that may be part of what Jesus meant when He said the truth will set you free.)

WhiteWings

Luke 22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

Luke 22:31-32  And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:  But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

It seems that satan can enter, but also that his entry can be blocked.....?
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

sheila

John 12;37

EVEN AFTER Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their

presence, they STILL WOULD NOT BELEIVE HIM. This was to

fulfill the word of Isaaih the prophet

For this reason they could NOT beleive, because as Isaaih

says elsewhere[Isaaih 6;10 'Make the heart of this people

calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise

they might see with their eyes hear with their ears, understand

with their hearts and turn and be healed.

  then I said,for how long,O"Lord? And He answered;

until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the house

are left deserted, and the feilds ruined and ravaged, until the

Lord has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken

and though a tenth remains in the land , it will again be laid

waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps, when they

are cut down, SO THE HOLY SEED WILL BE THE STUMP IN THE

LAND.

ISAAIH said this BECAUSE HE SAW  JESUS  GLORY AND

SPOKE ABOUT HIM

Yet, at the same time, many even among the leaders beleived

in Him,But because of the Pharisee's they would not confess

their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue,

FOR THEY LOVED PRAISE FROM MEN

  MORE THAN PRAISE FROM GOD.

Then Jesus cried out,' When A MAN BELEIVES IN ME,HE DOES

NOT  BELEIVE IN ME ONLY, BUT IN THE ONE WHO SENT ME

I HAVE COME INTO THE WORLD AS LIGHT,SO THAT NO-ONE

WHO BELEIVES IN ME SHOULD STAY IN DARKNESS

AS FOR THE PERSON WHO HEARS MY WORDS BUT DOES NOT

KEEP THEM,I DO NOT JUDGE HIM

FOR I DID NOT COME TO JUDGE THE WORLD BUT TO SAVE IT

THERE IS A JUDGE FOR THE ONE WHO REJECTS ME AND

DOES NOT ACCEPT MY WORDS: THAT VERY WORD THAT I

SPOKE WILL CONDEMN HIM AT THE LAST DAY

FOR   I  DID  NOT  SPEAK  OF MY OWN   ACCORD,

BUT  THE FATHER  WHO SENT ME COMMANDED ME , WHAT

TO  SAY  AND HOW TO  SAY  IT........I   KNOW    THAT

HIS COMMAND   LEADS   TO   ETERNAL   LIFE

So, whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say

hmmmmn....if you 'HEAR' Jesus Commands you ARE LED to ..

    ETERNAL LIFE....

seems NOT hearing HIM is what leads to judgement and

condemnation at the last day because you didn't beleive the

  WORD OF GOD

LORD, WHO HAS BELEIVED OUR MESSAGE. AND TO WHOM

HAS THE ARM OF THE LORD BEEN REVEALED?

[the Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no-one, He WAS APPALLED THAT THERE WAS NO-ONE TO INTERVENE; SO HIS OWN ARM WORKED SALVATION FOR HIM]

AS for ME this is my covenant with them, says the LORD

MY SPIRIT WHO IS ON YOU, AND MY WORDS THAT I HAVE

PUT IN YOUR MOUTH, WILL NOT DEPART FROM YOUR MOUTH,

OR FROM THE MOUTHS OF YOUR CHILDREN, OR FROM THE

MOUTHS OF THEIR DESCENDANTS, FROM THIS TIME ON AND

FOREVER, Says the LORD

It all goes back to the same ole garden scenario, you beleive what God says..or you don't..if another is deceiving you or your heart is calloused..you will be blind to salvation of all mankind

if you are led unto the TREE OF LIFE you will know there is no condemnation for them that beleive......

if you reject Christ as fulfilling the law[tokogae] you will

remain in your sins[error]..with condemnation and death

as it's result..the TOKOGAE WAS CUT DOWN..all that remains is

the stump of which the SPROUT/BRANCH of the TREE OF LIFE IS

   Isaaih 11  A Sprout will come up from the stump of Jesse;

from His roots a BRANCH WILL BEAR FRUIT

The spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the spirit of

wisdom,understanding,cousel,power,knowledge and fear of the

Lord. HE WILL NOT JUDGE BY WHAT HE SEE'S WITH HIS EYES

[when the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was Good to

look at and pleasing to the EYES] OR DECIDE BY WHAT HE

HEARS WITH HIS EARS, BUT WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS HE WILL

JUDGE THE NEEDY ,WITH JUSTICE HE WILL GIVE DECISIONS

FOR THE POOR OF THE EARTH

HE WILL STRIKE THE EARTH WITH THE ROD OF HIS MOUTH

WITH THE BREATH OF HIS LIPS HE WILL SLAY THE WICKED

Thank you all. But I wanted to say, please don't pray that this "evil spirit" or "demon" will stop hurting me. It's nothing like that. It's my own mind, and nothing else. I used to believe that a demon was responsible for them, I kept getting worse and worse. Once I stopped believing it was a demon, or whatever, that was my first breakthrough. I started getting better. I don't believe the devil can "make" you think evil things. Because, if he can take over your mind long enough to put a thought in your head, what stopping him from taking over your mind? So I don't believe this is anything other then my deepest fears manifesting themselves in this way. Thank you all for your kind words.

Also, I think Satan did a lot more the Jesus than talk to him. I think he appeared to Jesus, and moved him from one location to the next.

Lupac,

I don't know what exactly causes unwanted thoughts to arise in our minds.  As far as calling them demons or evil spirits, that really is just a matter of semantics when it boils down to it.  All I know is that much of the suffering in humanity happens in our minds.   To me, Satan is just a figure for usurper or the adversary of man's soul.   Also, we all have to guard our hearts and minds - it is a work that we are called to do until we take our last breath -- something we must be vigilant about.  It is a battle that we did not choose, and cannot lay aside.   Good thing we have weapons for it as laid out in the book of Ephesians:

"Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints...." Ephesians 6:10-18

I'm still worried I have committed  the "un-forgivable sin". I don't know what to do. I've read those articles, I've prayed about it lots of times. Asking God to forgive me if I have, and to help me not feel guilty. But all I can think about is Hebrews 6:4-6, and Matthew 12:32. I worry, what if I've rejected God, or He thinks I have, or if I thought or said it once, that's it, end of the road, or something? I remember one thought I had a real tough time with was, man I don't even want to type it, "I want the Holy Spirit to depart from me." or something of that effect. That devastated me. I was worried, and still am, that I really meant it. I prayed and prayed that God would help me not worry. Is there something I'm not doing? Maybe I just need more alcohol... (j/k) Thank you all for your help.

What good do you do yourself by WORRYING Lupac?  Is there PEACE in it?  If not, let it go...

Whether I am correct or not... WORRYING never resolves anything.  Ever WORRY about getting caught in a storm?  Did the WORRYING stop the storm from coming?  :pitiful:

IMO, if you had really committed this SIN, you likely would not even be concerned one way or the other... for your heart would be set against the Holy Spirit anyway...

However, what has happened, is that the Babylonians (Christian church) have convinced you by their "HELL" and "ET" proposals to you, therefore you WORRY that they and their FEAR trip is TRUE...  :sigh:

If you feel you must, just ask God's forgiveness ONCE, and then move on, in the confidence that He has heard you (He is not deaf -- He has PERFECT HEARING -- so repeating the request is totally unnecessary).

There is nothing you can do other than BELIEVE and DOUBT NOT... For if you ask God the same thing over and over, all this does is CAST DOUBT upon your prayer request, negating it...  :dontknow:

Lupac,

I think your worry about this one point is common to man.  When I was in the churches there were many people tormented by the worry that they had committed the "unpardonable" sin.    I think this kind of worry happens to many people who have been abused by religious institutions.   I hope you are able to stop worrying about it and lay it to rest.   God has not shut you out.   But the enemy of your soul loves having you believe that and making you suffer in your mind.   That is the fiery darts of the devil working on you.   You will have to fight the devil with the armor God has given us....

Romans 8 38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

willie, thank you so much for these words.  :girlheart: I know God meant for me to read them. I have prayed for healing for my husband over and over knowing it is up to God to heal him when and if he chooses to. I know by doing this I have cast doubt upon my prayer request. I know God can heal him if it is his will?

Lupac,

If you worry about whether you have committed the unpardonable sin, then you can pretty much be assured you haven't. Besides, I believe you would have had to be living in Jesus day to sin againgt the Holy Spirit.

My understanding is, the scribes said Jesus "hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils". They also said he had an unclean spirit (Mark 3:22-31).  This is what was referred to as sinning against the Holy Spirit.

Um, I've thought stuff like that too.  :( Not usually, but I have before. It upset me a lot, and still does. Every little "slip up" I have in my mind worries me that God will throw me into hell. (It's a tough teaching to get over.) Thank you for the kind words. I'll be okay. I know God loves me. I just have to not let this bother me.

Sometimes the very thing we try to avoid (ie: not let this bother me) ends up being the only thing we can think about, and our "imagination" runs wild.  It's similar imo; in how the power of sin is the law.  It's similar to me telling you "don't think about pink elephants".

Since u know God loves you, and it is unconditional; how about let yourself feel the "bother", accept it; and let it run it's course.

 Good advice Zeek! The only way to overcome our fears is to face them head on. And Lupac, it's not the thought of Jesus having an evil spirit that is the "unforgivable sin", it's the actually believing it. If you truly believed it you wouldn't care that you were having these thoughts, on the contrary you would want nothing to do with Jesus.

The Pharisees didn't believe it. They were just going to say it, and if they did, then is it still a truly "unforgivable sin"? I know you all mean well, but most of these replies have made me feel worse. When Jesus said "this age" was he talking about the law age, or the age that was then, now, and until he returns? It seems to me that it's the former, but I want to know what you think. Thanks.

Lupac I just wanted to share this woman's site with you: http://www.ocd-free.org/
It is by a woman who had OCD herself and by taking differents herbs she cured herself. She wrote a short book on the biology of it and what to take to overcome it. She sent me the web version of it if you're interested I can email her and ask her if she minds if I send it to you. Let me know.

You are wrong indeed WhiteWings. The author is actually a wonderful caring lady who gives free online consultations and suggestions as to what herbs to take to get better, depending on your symptoms. (She has all the credentials to do this, you can see them listed on her site.) She also gives free webinars (an online seminar) with loads of information about different types of sicknesses and how to become free of them through taking natural herbs. Her only way of obtaining an income to do this is through selling these herbs on her website. She never pressures anyone to buy anything from her site. She is just a very caring woman who knows what it is like to be bound by OCD and would love to see others be set free from it.  :cloud9:

This scripture can be interpreted in various ways .Yes it can also be interpreted that it does speak about the AGES /YEARS that are to come .So its YOUR choice how to understand this .
This choice on the other hand is influenced by various factors of you and your life in general.

And btw :
QuoteEXAMPLE --- If you were to place a GUN in an innocent hand,  (knowing the gun can KILL), and IN that "innocence" a KILLING takes place, shall YOU pronounce MURDER to that "innocent"?  When the "innocent" was NEVER WARNED of the "potentials" of the gun?  When it was YOU which provided the means for the MURDER to be engaged?

Even if it was warned of the potentials ,the owner is the one that should take responsiblity for the gun being used in a bad way ,because he is a provider . Everyone is responsible that is engaged in a relationship in general .
