There's a saying I like;  don't wrestle with a pig.  You'll just get muddy, and the pig likes it.

To be more scriptural, Jesus said to not toss your pearls before swine.  Scripture also says "My Word will not return to me void".

Though I believe we are to "charge and teach" that our hope is in the Living God, Savior of all men", there must be a place to draw a line and say "I'm wasting my time - he/she is just hard-headed and enjoys it".

The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

I beleive that it is Good to teach . However, sometimes we are presented with a person who is looking for conflict and not discussion, at which point it is better to back away. I also feel that at times we should be cautious when speaking of the deeper truths so that we do not become a stumbling block for our brethren.

I have some problems with the verses you correctly quoted Jabcat.

First of all the pearls of truth are of an unlimitted number. So no fear you can't share your pearls anymore.
Plus what if we replace pearl with 'seeds'?
Who decides/knows the seed/pearl really falls on rocky ground.
Many on this forum claim to have an ET background.
Was there no need to sow in them because it was very clear they where rocky ground.
At least it looked that way.
It turned out they where quality ground. Or the seed found a crack in the rock. The roots of the oak tree have completly cracked open that rock.
So I think we shouldn't be to scared to throw the pearls.
Afterall in the sower parable the sower also threw his seeds all around. He didn't analyze each square inch of soil before spreading his seeds.
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

What if some guy's just a knucklehead, and it's obvious he's not listening...only arguing.  Do you keep arguing with him?  And then why do you think Jesus said such a thing?

You do make some good points.  I'm just saying I believe there are limits, and if so, what do you think they are?

I just would throw my 100 pound pearls at his knucklehead.
Yes, Jesus said it for a reason. A reason I don't understand in combination with other scriptures.

Pearls before swine and children's bread to the dogs is essentially the same statement with the Jewish view of Gentiles as both swine and dogs, unless there's some shell game that can be played on the phrases with how elaborate that Judaism got with it's own form of geek-speak.  Jesus told a Gentile woman that it wasn't right to give the children's bread to the dogs, but Jesus' knees buckled when she begged for the crumbs, so...

Thoughts?

Could it be Jesus was talking about real, literal pearls?  and real, literal swine? :laughing7:
Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.

"Never try and teach a pig to sing, you will waste your time and you will annoy the pig."

Are our broadest hopes broad enough? Shall there be a nook or abyss, in all the universe of God, finally unlightened by the Cross? Shall there be a sin, or sorrow, or pain unhealed? Is the very universe, is creation in all its extent, a field wide enough for the Son of God?

:cloud9: I used to have a family doctor who had that first saying needle-pointed and framed and hung in his office. Sometimes it's just so hard not to want to indulge in a little mud wrestling, though, isn't it?

Fortunately for them, I can't sing.  :laughing7: Blessings....
