My friend and Tentmaker member Kevin Low passed away last night...

... of natural causes. He lived just a few miles from me and we became friends several months ago. Kevin had a hard life but God gave him the peace of universal reconciliation and it really did change his life.

He left behind some great kids - I met his son Drew (17) 2 weeks ago and we went and bought a bass guitar for him to play in his Christian band. 

Kevin will be greatly missed...  :sigh:

Well I didn't know him but he was a member hear, which makes him close in spirit. Thankfully God blessed him with his loving truth before he passed.

I've never met anyone like Kevin. He was the most broken and desperate human being I've ever encountered - but yet he had found a 'certain' peace in the midst of it all.

A few years ago he was a deacon around these parts in a very famous fundamentalist church (known worldwide). But having been beaten and starved and abandoned as a child - his inner demons finally got the best of him and he lost everything - his marriage, his business, his family. He was left homeless, destitute. What happened next is explained in this tentmaker post on from a 'suicide' thread.

I did try to do suicide in 2003, my perfect plan to end the torture of being torn apart spiritually. Passing into the Spirit of Truth.

It was a plan of perfection to take the quick route to my Father and Family.
It could not fail. 35 miles down an isolated road rarely traveled.
Well it did not work, and I was pronounced dead 2 times.
It was nothing but a miracle I was found. Details I do not think are need, they seem to only entertain.

"I did not come to take you out of the world, but leave you here." I would like to black that verse out
of the Bible.

This was no 'cry for attention' type suicide attempt. His military training taught him exactly which arteries in his legs to sever to insure death. I saw the deep scars with my own eyes.

The 'church' had rejected him.

He had long before completely alienated his sister Karen, who is a devout Buddhist. He told me he had treated her very very badly for many many years - but yet she is the one who came (from out of state) to his rescue and took him off the streets and into her home and nurtured him back to health.

In Kevin's words "the most Christlike person I've ever known in my life".

He finally realized that there is a wideness to God's mercy and that calling oneself a "Christian" is not what makes one "Christlike". He consequently embraced UR and that's how he ended up here.

Kevin's favorite saying was from J. R. R. Tolkien:  "not all those who wander are lost"

The complete quote is:
"All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renenwed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king."

That really sucks, we had some great exchanges on facebook, I never met him in person but he indeed was my friend and not just a body count on my profile.

I'll tell you something else - ever heard the phrase "don't know what you got till it's gone"?

Like most friends and family, I took Kevin somewhat for granted. I was near his home last Saturday and determined I 'didn't have time' to stop and say hi - so I kept going. As you may guess, I wish I had that decision back.

His motto "Not all those who wander are lost" was just a saying at the bottom of all his emails and posts. It wasn't until he died that it's really sinking in. I want to make it my motto now. It's ringing over and over in my ears.
