King James V,
What is the most important issue to you in these two verses?

17: And Jesus answered and said unto him. Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it???

I am just wondering if UR's see what I am talking about and for the others, what do these words give to you for light...

Ok, no one seems to be interested in thinking on this subject so I will say this, these two verses show me that the church in the future will be through the God act of revelation and not a man called Peter.
Years later an organization took over the control of the way mankind should understand God and said "see, this is why only the leaders of our organization are to be leaders" and to me this was a repeat of a cycle that had been done before, the golden calf. Gods made with their own hands (organization run religion) by the blind.

When YOU read these verses, do you focus on the Peter story or do you see and understand that the WHOLE jest of it all is about the God revealed act of Him dealing with man on a one on one basis and not through the high priest in the old temple way????

greetings this fine day.

i lke all of it, but i see that it is ONLY the father who reveals that the gates of hell will not prevail over the work of the SON.

AKW: the sin of adam will NOT defeat the cross and resurrection of Christ.  :bgdance:

i dare say there is MUCH more to it though.

Lee lemme start with saying  :newb: :welcome: :hithere:

"That thou art Peter, and upon this rock"

Peter comes from the Greek Petros meaning boulder or rock.
What if we read the verse as: "That thou art a rock, and upon this rock"

Peter (the person) is the foundation of the church God will build

Quotethese two verses show me that the church in the future will be through the God act of revelation and not a man called Peter.
I think that interpretation is to black/white. If I understood you correctly....
To me sounds like you mean the work of Peter was inferior.
Laying a foundation isn't inferior. And I think "Blessed art thou" kinda proves that; because Jesus wouldn't have blessed incompetent work.

Just my  :2c:
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

This is to White Wing, Peter to me was not any less than God intended.
Although God knew that for hundreds of years "the Church" would be in corrupt-blind hands. And I believe that God also new that to root His life in Man, He chose to use corrupt minds to bring life to Mankind and the world so that in a future day, Mankind would come-to- know the Presence of the indwelling Life.

As for the Rock, The new foundation of the new way (Church) is in my changed Heart, that God would deal with Mankind through His Spirit dealing with us on a personal level. One on One.

I believe that those corrupt hands swayed humans to think "what they wanted them to believe" this meant they would be in total control of everything. Lee
