I'm sitting here listening to my pastor's radio show, where all theses people are calling in, giving their testimonies of how Jesus saved them from the destructive vices of this world.
Yet, that standard fundie attitude is Jesus saves people from et. "If there's no hell, what is Jesus saving people from?" HELLO! I love my fundie brothers and sisters, but when it comes to this issue, it's like the lights are on, but nobody's at home.

One of my favorite versions of that last sentiment there is this one:

I simply cannot listen to radio preachers.   They irk me, so I just keep turning the radio dial to some good music.  I do like contemporary Christian music on the radio, but not the preachin'   ugh!

I'm with you all the way on this one!!  Same with TV evangelists . . . I'll listen to see if their sound is in tune . . .doesn't take very long to realize they're just clanging again . . .but every now and then, I'll come across one that dares to bring life from the Word rather than religion . . .keep checking . . the time is coming when there will be a significant change in the tone of the messages.

I hope they are around for a long time, but they are currently being threatened by legislation that would force the stations to put on the 'other side.'  That's all I need--to be forced to listen to atheists on the Christian broadcasting networks.

Oh Tommy is a wonderful teacher. Not saying anything against him or his show. It's just that overall, people are so stuck in hell mode, they forget what they were saved from, yet they continue to give riveting testimonies. It's like 1+1 = 3

Even the "crummy" ones can come up with something that's worth jotting down at times.

Now Tommy might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I have learned a huge amount from him in a very short span of time.

I was talking to a friend last night, one who is not convinced...and is sure that I'm quite wrong on a lot of things.  She said, "I certainly wouldn't read any of your books!  I read the Bible, not what man has to say about it."  People don't seem to figure in the man of their own heart when they say such things.  I told her she not only has sat under thousands of sermons over the years, but I also knew she watches several cable or satellite channels of religious TV that are rigorously thought controlled.  The only people on there must toe the line in several doctrinal areas.  It isn't that God doesn't show us other things.  It is just that what we are bombarded with over and over again persuades us to think certain ways.  We go with these repeated ideas rather than the occasional illumination.  The big thing that I am frustrated with is that it has taken me so many years to unlearn what I was taught and undo what was done to me and I have made so little real progress in the knowledge of God.  The danger with "Christian" media for those that have seen through many of their lies is simply that they keep you in the wading pool with the little kids and you never learn to launch out into the deep and swim on your own or with the big boys.

 :cloud9: That's just part of human nature we all have to work through. Paul was speaking of this when he rebuked them for still needing milk. It's EASIER to be a "pew sitter" and never have to grow up beyond the "teen" years of needing a covering of flesh and blood.

Some of us never were given milk or sat in a pew, we learned through the school of hard knocks and adversity,  but when I consider the  religious false teachings, traditions and doctrines that many here have said they have had to unlearn it appears to me that this is even more trying to pass through and without either boast or complaint I am thankful for all the hard knocks and adversity along with the good things of love the lord used in this journey to teach me to trust in him alone.

From all I have heard pew setting in some church for a life time profits absolutely nothing, one may as well sit in the first grade of school until they are old and grey learning their ABC's and 1+1= 2 over and over again without going beyond first Grade as to pew sit in some church complacently sleeping in the spirit for a life time.
