It is the reason I have wrote some of the things I have about God not being able to do absolutely anything.

If he could perfect us without putting us through this mess we find ourselves in or  watching the misery we seem helpless to stop then really, what do we call something that did it anyway, if there was another choice?

Taf, don't you think most just know what they know?  I've never been to say, Uganda, so I may have concerns about it,  but really don't know a lot about it, so probably just can't really relate because of no real experience or first hand knowledge...the US is pretty isolated compared to Europe, where it's relatively more easy to come and go into the other countries, experience others' lives, etc....just some thoughts about it...maybe other countries feel the way they do about the US, at least in part, because they also only know what they know...no real first hand experience from being here...i'm sure there are other resentments, but it's probably all pretty complicated....

anyway, back to the OP?
The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

People read their own sufferings into the intent of God, which is the furthest thing from Biblical reality.  If you believe that Someone's sole purpose in your life is to poke you in the eye, punch you in the ribs, or kick you in the groin every morning when you get up, then how could you not regard Him as an evil bastard outside of any kind of religiously brainwashed Calvinistic context that would try to make such evil totally pure because of Who is allegedly doing it?  If people think that their suffering is coming from God, then they're not going to want anything else that He has.

People are just being intellectually and spiritually honest when they view it that way, based upon the information they've been given by religious people.  If I viewed God that way, I'd be the exact same way, or probably infinitely worse about it.  All of the human dynamic is bottomlined in their pursuit of [what they believe will bring them] pleasure and the avoidance of [what they believe will bring them] pain.  If people think that God means pain and suffering to them, then they're going to avoid Him like a strep infection!  How did George MacDonald word it with regards to the atheist?  He said something to the effect [regarding their animosity against God] of it being the Spirit of the Lord rising up within them against all of their false notions about God.

Exact same here. If He'd allowed me to start the thread, it would have included an expletive.  Those of us who've occasionally been viewed either sincerely or cynically as having a bed of roses and not knowing what others were going through: the thorns have been in the pillow cases! :laughing7:

I've personally lived a whole lot longer than I ever intended to, but my time has never been mine.  Absolutely every freakin' thing in my life has always been about what He's wanted.  His impositions.  His saying what He's wanted to say.  His doing what He's wanted to do.  I've been nothing but a puppet.

The more I think on things like this, the more I'm convinced that those who go through great tribulation here, and endure the sufferings to the end, are the same that God has appointed and anointed to play even a greater role on the other side of the flesh.

Just as we believe that hell is used as a tool of God to purge the urge of the flesh in us, to purify us for his honor . . .and the LOF is the same for those who've rejected Him on this side of the curtain of life, to cleanse them for the life to come . . .so it is with those that suffer things on this side . . .be it physical sickness, disease, or emotional stresses, or even religious tormenting . . .ALL things come together FOR THE GOOD . . .doesn't necessarily mean it's for a more stress-free life on this side . . .but for the Good on the other side . . .we're storing up greater rewards to manifest in the eternal realm, through our endurance of the tribulational experiences here in the temporary realm.

I don't pray that you be removed from this place . . .I pray you are strengthened for the endurance as you go "through" this place.  I can't imagine the agonizing routines of your painful days . . . some being better than most, but as the disease progresses . . the bad days seemingly out number the good days.

My wife was found to have a considerably large gall stone 6 months ago or so .  . . and because she just hates surgeries . .she's had operations before . . .she chose to tough it out . . .unfortunately, unless God intervenes . .these things don't go away on their own without outside help.  And in most cases nowadays . . .it's a very simple procedure and you're in and out in a couple hours . .but because of her past surgeries . . .there is a patch where there used to be cartilidge in her chest . . .so that may affect the simple procedure and cause it to be a more major one.

She had a pretty bad episode with it yesterday . .they seem to be getting more frequent . .and lasting longer . . .extremely painful to endure . . . but she's finally given in and is setting an appointment up for Wednesday to get this over with.

Celebrate with us will you?  Pray and praise that God's will, will clearly manifest in this entire situation.  it hurts to see the pain on her face as she tries to carry on with her daily routine . . .especially with twin 4-year old boys who don't have a clue how excruciating this is for her.

Romans 5 (Message)
1-2By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us—set us right with him, make us fit for him—we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus. And that's not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide open spaces of God's grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.
3-5There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit

Grafted thought . . .be warned, has nothing to do with original topic . . .
In reading this passage I just posted . . .upon reading further, it occurred to me that this speaks to the "idea" that was once my old philosophy and is still many people's current thinking that you can lose your salvation . . .very interesting thing Paul says here . . .

Romans 5 (Amplified)
6 While we were yet in weakness [powerless to help ourselves], at the fitting time Christ died for (in behalf of) the ungodly.    7Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die.    8But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.    9 Therefore, since we are now justified ([f]acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ's blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God.    10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more [certain], now that we are reconciled, that we shall be saved (daily delivered from sin's dominion) through His [[g]resurrection] life.[/b]

It goes on and on through the rest of that chapter . . . stating clearly that one . . .we were in a sinful state when the righteousness was given . .and two . . .we remain in that righteous state in the future as well.  This salvation is not pending that we sin no more . . .this salvation completely erases past, present and future sin . . .

Maybe we're not looking at sin in the same light as God . . .God isn't looking at our acts as sin . . he's looking at our "condition" as sin.  But after Christ came, our condition was altered . . .it was transformed . .. so now, what is up to us is the "when" the salvation goes into effect.  If we accept Christ on this side of the curtain of life, then the inheritance comes NOW.  If we don't accept Christ . .be it by choice or lack of opportunity, either way, we still get the inheritance . . .it just comes on the other side of life. . .after the purging of the lake of fire . . .as it does what the cross does . . .the cross was salvation for those living on this side of life . . .the lake of fire is salvation for those without the cross experience . . .which actually, is your mind submitting to your spirit . . that's really what salvation is.

It's your mind giving up the control of you, and letting your spirit lead . . .because your spirit is the conduit through which God operates in you.  But when you're led by your mind, your mind stops the conduit . . .it stops the spirit from flowing.

So . . . I accept the FREE and UNRETURNABLE GIFT of salvation but I still make mistakes . . .I still "miss the mark" occasionally . . . (definition for sin = miss the mark).  But the difference is now, it doesn't affect my position of righteousness in God.  But that doesn't mean there still aren't consequences for those things . . .it just means righteousness is blind to the sin . . .which gives me freedom to retain my own personality and also causes me to experience and endure hardships . . .or "hell" because God uses those hard things to solidify even greater things in me that are of his nature and less of mine.

Many of us . . .actually . . .I'd have to say "ALL" of us create our own hell in one fashion or another . . .by our actions and attitudes, we're the ones that create our own consequences.  We have flesh that needs to still be purged . .but our righteousness remains no matter how much hell we create for ourself afterwards . . .righteousness/salvation is eternal in us regardless.

Sorry so long.

Well stated.  You gotta love brother George MacDonald.  He understood a thing or two!  He got himself an UNDERSTANDING. "Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.  Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."   (PROVERBS 4: 5-7)
