We allow people to see only the sides of us that we wish for them to see

Why would God be any different?  Some people infer from certain Scriptures that God's the One blinding some people to certain aspects of His Nature and to certain aspects of His Person.  How are we any different?

Ex. #1:

Guy meets grrl.

Guy is progressively more himself with grrl, perhaps the most himself that he's ever been with anyone.

Guy meets grrl's mother, aunt, grandmother, etc.

Guy BEHAVES around grrl's mother, aunt, grandmother, etc. :icon_jokercolor: :dontknow:

Ex. #2:

Guy is one way as father

Guy is another way as son

Guy is another way in/as Church

Guy is another way as boss

Guy is another way as employee

Guy is another way as boyfriend/husband

Guy is another way as friend

Guy is another way as acquaintance

And lastly:

Guy is one way figuring things out on his own, or trying to about this or that

Guy is totally different when he knows that he knows about a situation where the Word of the Lord has come to him

Are any of the above automatically hypocrisy, or just reflective of the fact that until our love is perfected through the Word that we can't possibly know someone/something as it/they really are in every demension??

To me, this makes sense on how God blinds eyes throughout the generations rather than using the scepter to randomly poke people's eyes out in the Calvinistic sense "so that His glory would be revealed" which no one in the rest of the Creation other than a religiously brainwashed creature would find to be true glory and worthy of endless/ceaseless laudation.

No, He shows us the side of Him that's This rather than That, and then later shows us the side of Him that's That, and we worship Him all the more fervently because of the consistency, the consistency (i.e. using the word in both usual senses), the beauty, the wisdom, the romance, and the multitasking to where at the end of the day He's ministered to everything that moves or that can't move yet(i.e. in the usual expectation of movement) in all of Creation.

:cloud9: sound like a plan to me . I think the key here is experience. We can't possibly truly know all the aspects of a person without experiencing it firsthand, we just know OF them. Blessings...

This makes me think of Matthew 6;3

But when you give to the needy, do not let your

right hand know what your left hand is doing.

Right hand the 'this' and the left hand the 'that'

Surely it's Him that meets all our needs

Something, isn't it? That EVE got "deceived" by opening up

to the WRONG one!

But "she" learned after a long journey. ha

Thou shalt have NO OTHER GODS before me.........

martin,

I liked your post.  Made me think of this verse (Rom. 1:20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.

"No, He shows us the side of Him that's This rather than That, and then later shows us the side of Him that's That"

IMO, that is indeed part of the way He veils and reveals...I think God's a billion times more multi-faceted than I can barely get more than a glimpse of... :bowing:
The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

I've been annoyed by the duplicity of people for years to where I've said at least weekly for years, "God, am I the only one where 'what you see is what you get'?"  And He finally answered me a week or so ago: "But haven't people tended to always underestimate you?"  So, I guess I stand corrected that anyone anywhere is ever at any time in the history of the world what they ever have or ever will appear to be.

I don't believe anyone is the exact same in all situations, nor do they need to be.

Martin started this thread with this title: "We allow people to see only the sides of us that we wish for them to see"

But I don't allow people to see my sides but my backside.  :laughing7:
Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.

Is that a reference to:

1.) butt/head?
2.) leaving, or going away?
3.) walking in front of others?

My apologies, couldn't resist the temptation to inquire!   :wink1:

WHY would anyone "want" to see the bad side?  WHY? Or know
what YOU are trying to forget.  Forgetting those things which
are behind.  What you loose shall be loosed in heaven and bound
shall be bound.

Has a lot to do with the tongue.

You have to be careful with even what you PRAY in front of
people.  My old prayer partner who just passed told me that
a long time ago.

The devil don't know nothing less you tell him.

It's insightful to know where someone's brutal steps with themselves are coming from.  Why, if lust has been their issue in the past, then the television, magazines, and other forms of media have virtually no place in their lives -- if they haven't quit totally cold turkey on a bunch of stuff with the baseball bat handy if anyone brings that around them again.  Why, if they were always misunderstood in the past, then right now they're doing everything within their reach to be understood even if they look like they've got issues with a million and one clarifications of what they meant, or to avoid liars at any and all costs.  Why if they were alcoholics in the past, they won't allow even egg nog into their fridge without the severest protest.

While folks are walking things out by faith, sometimes extreme measures are being taken in order to break free: formerly violent folks not even wanting a fly swatter in the house, etc.  It's not necessarily a matter of knowing someone else's garbage for the sake of knowing it, but in order to know how to prayerfully help or to just prayerfully be there without taking them the wrong way and/or walking on them.

If our relationships with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are any pattern, then it takes progressively knowing all of it to have an ongoing relationship, although it mortifies the flesh, as I've felt all too often with my transparency.  Relationally, it goes back to many people's interpretations/theories of having been cast into futility for what it would do with their relationship with God.  Well, according to 1John, what's true in our relationship with Him applies to our relationship with one another, or we're kidding ourselves and one another in our claims of a relationship with Him.  There isn't any hiding any of it without denying our relationship with Him, according to 1John.  Yes, we're cleansed by the Blood and that's the sweetness of the deal and of His mercy and grace, but...

WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

If you look for a rainbow, it will surely appear!
And the sky will be blue and the Light will be clear!
And your heart will rejoice! And your "spirit" will sing!
And to "YOU" will be given - a Great Eagle's Wings!
And you'll soar to the heights! And with JOY you will ride!
On the "wind" of the STORM - in the "darkness" you'll hide!
You'll discover the PLACE that is SECRET with God!
If you'll look for a rainbow and walk where He trod!

Do NOT look at the "darkness" - Turn your eyes now away!
For the "darkness" will lead you - from your God astray!
Keep your eyes on the LIGHT shining "in" the dark place!
Keep your eyes upon JESUS - "HIS" Glory and Grace!
Eat the butter and honey and choose what is good!
And refuse what is evil and say "not" to the wood:
"Arise now, and teach us that we may now learn."
For the wood will not ever know how to discern.

Tis a trumpet now sounding and it's bringing good news!
To the ear that will hearken and evil refuse!
For God is now speaking and blowing His Breath
On "The Way that Seems Right" but the end there is death!
And the "evil" He's blowing is passing away!
And the LIGHT that was darkness is become a NEW DAY
For the KNOWLEDGE OF EVIL from the Knowledge of Tree
Took occasion by LAW ... AND BY LAW it slew me!

If you look for a fault, it will surely appear!
And the "wages" you'll get will be worry and fear!
And your hands will hang down and your knees will be weak.
If for "error" you search and for "error" you seek!
You'll be evermore learning and evermore wise!
BUT YOUR WISDOM WILL NOT LIFT YOUR HEART TO THE SKIES!
Ever learning you'll be - ever learning indeed.
But not able to look - past the fault - to the need.

So remember, my friend, every "spirit's" Not True!
Every "spirit" doth NOT say that Christ is in you!
There's a "spirit" of ERROR and on you it doth tell!
You have been to the tree where the first Adam fell!

1st Cor 1:21 For after that "in the wisdom of God" the
world BY WISDOM knew NOT God
It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching
to save them that believe
