Im so pleased to be joining this forum! The Tentmaker site as a whole has been a huge influence in my spritual quest (in brief I was brought up Christian, but it never meant much too me then. Through my 20s and 30s I was a New Ager, Pagan and more besides, anything but Christianity. Now at 39 I've finally embraced Christ, truly born again in a life changing experience.) I've been happy at my local Baptist CHurch except for the doctrine of hell, which seems so inconsistent with the Jesus I have met. Jesus has given me a "peace which passes all understanding" and changed my life. Teaching on hell on the other hand led to an emotional distancing from friends and even close family as well as wondering if anyone TRULY believes it. I remember going to the Rememberance Day Service in the village. Did the conservative, hell believing Christians there truly believe in their heart of hearts that most of those young men who died at 17-18 years old in the trenches would really awake seconds later in an eternal lake of fire? What this site, as well as many others on the net have shown me is that it is entirely possible to be a Bible believeing, evangalistic lover of Jesus who believes that God never ever gives up on his children! This has been such a source of joy to me...and puts the last piece in the jigsaw and makes Christianity the PERFECT faith and Good news beyond imagination. Far from putting the dampeners on wanting to share the good news, quite the opposite! And does this mean I can now sin with no fear of judgement - nope there sure is a fearful judgement and why would I want to hurt my Father and my friend who has given everything for me and for all those I love! Wow!
