willieH: Hello to all... :hithere:

I started this thread on the recommendation of "Trying" who, rightly did not wish to sidetrack another thread...

This thread will be...

WHAT EXACTLY IS... the WORD of GOD... ??????  :Chinscratch:

What is it to you?  :dontknow:

Is it the BIBLE? or do you have other writings which you consider His WORD?

It seems that the trend these days is that the BIBLE is becoming unnecessary... and many are finding ways to JILT it as the WORD... Or it is noted as just another "historical document"... which was INSPIRED...

I see these kind of comments as a "cake & eat it too" philosophy... for if we cast aside the BIBLE... we are left to our own conclusions without its recommendations... seems that is the way of MAN, not the way of GOD...

So... let's hear the alternatives... (and before you mention it, God speaks to me in many ways outside the BIBLE, through others, in nature, everytime I see the Sun rise or set... etc. --- but I STILL need the guidance and inspiration of the Scriptures to verify those observations as pertinent to HOLINESS)

No condemnation to anyone... let's hear whatcha got-ta-say...  :dontknow:

willieH: Hi Trying... :hithere:

THIS is the reply which led to the establishment of this discussion:

willieH: Hi Trying...

So are you saying you believe the BIBLE?

What is CHRIST to you?  And HOW do you determine what HIS WORDS are, brother T?

Are you saying that anything IN the BIBLE which is not a "quotation" of CHRIST's SPOKEN WORDS... is NOT His WORD?  :JCThink:  (i.e. the letters, the torah, the prophets, etc.)

Quote from: trying on July 18, 2008, 11:10:09 PMI believe "the bible" is a collection of historical documentation written by men inspired by God to keep account of happenings... I highly doubt each author knew at the time they penned it that they were writing "the bible"...

You really didn't answer my question Trying... what is CHRIST to you?  And what do YOU regard as HIS WORD?

You already previously stated that the BIBLE is NOT the WORD of God... so WHAT IS?  :Chinscratch:

and,

You define the BIBLE as historical documentation written BY MEN which was INSPIRED by GOD...  this appears to be an admission that the WORDS of the BIBLE are INSPIRED? no?  :dontknow:

And if they ARE INSPIRED, then the words which these men penned, whether they knew it or not, were not their own, but GOD'S... NO?

Quote from: trying on July 18, 2008, 11:10:09 PMWe now use the bible as our "playbook" and "rule book" much in the fashion a Football team has a playbook and on-field referee's to help make sure they play by the rules...

So you in effect, reduce what you admit are, INSPIRED writings as a mere "playbook" or "rulebook"?  No more than a "football team" might use?  :dontknow:

This is dangerous ground upon which you tread my friend, and you are welcome to tiptoe upon it with such wreckless words...

But I see you both crediting and discrediting the same entity... which is a divided observation...

(You say the BIBLE is INSPIRED and a "rule book" to guide us, ...but that it is NOT the WORDS of GOD)...

Please note what actually you believe ...IS... the WORD of GOD...  Or even if there is such an entity in which we might find direction from Him...

(CHRIST is that entity, but in what do you say, other than the BIBLE [which you say is NOT the WORD, BUT is INSPIRED], ...that may we find the WORDS by which we might gain His guidance?)

Hi WillieH,

This may not be the answer you are looking for and might instead look like another question or it could be both with an answer
in the question.

that there are three main modes in communication of the word as follows:

1. The living word

2. The oral word

3. The written word

1. It appears that Christ is the living word that was with God from the begining and the word became flesh, the man Jesus Christ.

2. The word was given oraly through the prophets before there was any bibles in print, they almost had to have been directed or moved by the spirit to have prophesied the coming of Jesus the Saviour.
Abraham received his direction from the spirit and he believed God. The three wise men, the maji received direction from above, the knowing when it happened, the birth of Jesus.

3.  The bible is written word and the truth about the truth, however in my personal POV only God knows all truth and It would be impossible for the world to hold the infinite number of books it would take to contain all truth, the basic truth pointing to all truth coming from above is written  within the bible.

Also Jesus himself said to his disciples that he had more to teach them but they were not ready to receive any more at that time
than they could bear witness to but that later man would do the many things he had done and even greater things.

I am with you on this that God can speak to us in countless ways, and the written word is just one of the ways, many take a fundamental literal approach to reading the bible and by that not receive the spiritual message until years later when the spirit turns the lights on within the tent.
Many also end up worshiping or idolizing the bible, their church or both and so are unable to see beyond to the more important message the bible or the church are pointing to.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable.
