Anybody here fasted recently? Fasting experiences to share?

I found a site with some beautiful writings. In fact, I think I'll add a link to it on my site!

I fast quite frequently, though, honestly, it is more for health reasons.

Ha-ha!  Hi, Brian!  For some reason, when I saw this title the other day, I thought it would be a "world concern" topic so I skipped it.

I haven't fasted recently but I have had times of fasting in the past- seasons of fasting- my whole family did. There were times when it was just one big bother and pain and then there were times when my mind became very clear and my spirit was more in tune with the Lord.  To be honest, the bad times outweighed the good- headaches, weakness, irritability.  Those are supposedly physical reactions to a bad diet...   :mblush:

We really felt like the Lord was leading us into those fasts and it surprised me how much flack we heard from other Christians who thought we were caught up in dead works.  I think if we would have gone around saying, "All Christians should fast" or we thought we were somehow earning points with God, then it would have been a dead work.  But to me, going around saying "Christians shouldn't fast" is just as dead.

Lord, please deliver us all from blanket "shoulds" and "shouldn'ts"!

I have always been tossed about this  :mblush: Dont know if I should be or not be - I do know that I sure could use a "DOING STUFF" fast. When I put time aside just for God, stuff happens. I do it less and less recently  :msealed:

I can remember two episodes pretty vivedly when I was in my early twenties.  The first one that comes to mind is when I went to a revival and was pumped up.  Anyway, that evening and next day I was going to fast.  I was so 'on fire'.  It took me 2 hours to drive from the church to my dorm room in the next town.  By the time I got to my doom room, I shoved a potato in my microwave and when it buzzed I couldn't even finish cooking it because I was so hungry.  So I broke my fast eating a half raw potato after not even skipping a meal.   :mblush:

The next time I believe was of God.  I actually fasted 2 days, did a lot of crying, and wasn't even that hungry.  weird.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I too have fasted, and after years of not fasting I did so this past weekend. It really helps get things into perspective sometimes. I'd like to try going longer than 3 days sometime.

Christendom often hides behind the fig leaf of "dead works" in order to be lazy for Christ. Jesus told His disciples, "when you fast, ...." not, "if you fast, ...."

Today's Ronald McDonaldland Society has no room for fasting, however, and you won't hear it encouraged on the tube, either.

In the past I haphazardly tried to fast, and never made it past 2 days before becoming extremely weak and madly ravenous.

More recently, I came under spiritual attack. I was so messed up emotionally I could barely eat to begin with, so I decided to fast. I went for three days and never really got weak, in fact I felt rather fine. I felt hunger and wanted to eat, but that only came in short bursts. I didn't get that feeling like I was going to DIE if I did not eat. I am already extremely underweight (120 pounsds, 6 feet.. I'm a bean pole with ZERO bodyfat, and you can count all my ribs), so sometimes missing even one meal can denigrate me to a feeble mess with a huge unbearable headache. Going three days and still being able to get out and walk around was indeed a miracle.

So I think when God is in your fast, He will give you the strength.

I actually feel somewhat called to lay everything down soon, get a tent, and go sit out in the woods or something for a few days with no food or water. Hopefully God will send some direction into my life.

Hey Brian, I used that website's info to help jumpstart my fast.  I went on a 21 day juice fast.  It was a great experience.  I did it mostly for health and wellbeing but felt it did help me spiritually.

I don't think I'd ever try an extended water only fast.  I think it's too harsh and can weaken the immune system too much if it goes past a few days.  The juice fast gives you tons of nutrients and antioxidents and I really didn't feel bad for the most part.  There are moments when you feel tired but I've felt far worse on a regular calorie restricted diet.

My only advice is get a good juice machine!  If you want more info, I've done a ton of research on this topic and can help if want personal insight.  I'll have to look for the other site I used.  Both had great information.

Yeah, fasting can be good for the soul! and those people need to stop with the "dead works" thoughts..   That's just crazy talk. It's not a "work"! Sheesh!

Body, Mind & Spirit.
All three must be in harmony.

:cloud9: I used to fast once a week for the first few years of my walk, then He had me do it just when He led me to.

He gave me a dream once that I was to fast on carrots and water. I tried to start it the next day, but I could tell it was not the timing, and stopped. Four months later we found out my mother had advanced terminal cancer. I knew then what the dream was for and I started the fast the next morning. He led me in that one. I asked for 30 days, made it with no problem, never felt better in my life, was so quickened the last 2 weeks of it, I could barely sleep. Asked to go 40 and continued on, planning to ask for another 40 if I made it and still felt that good. Had major battle with someone, got aggravated and went off after 32 days. Have regretted it ever since, and I wish He would do it again, preferably without such tragic circumstances.

We have no idea that it is possible to truly draw our life from the Spirit and not the flesh, until the flesh is totally put down, because we have never experienced it. The last 10 days or so I only ate maybe 2 carrots and 2 glasses of water the whole day, and never felt better. When the Spirit anoints it, there's very little if any hunger, except every so often, and no weakness whatsoever.

In addition to this one He has led me to do "Daniel" fasts over the years, which is "pulse" (vegetables, grains) and water, and what I call His "communion" fast in which I only have bread and grape juice for a few days. I have received many blessings from fasting and many answers to prayers. Blessings to all.......

Thanks for the input all! It's encouraging to see that others have fasted and/or do fast.

I really agree that the Spirit is the food we need most. I believe that in Sonship (at the level when we are as Jesus was when He was transfigured on the mount), that there is no need for natural food. Cool!

Praise God! Blessings and love to you all,
Bri
