Melissa Scott's teachings against Christian Universalism?

I still need to listen to more of what she's said, but she seems convinced that Jesus's words in greek are talking about eternal torment/damnation. She also believes that an actual hell exists. What's everyone's thoughts?

It's all about that word aion and its variations.
It for 100% sure has the meaning of a limited duration. All agree on that.
But some believe it has an additional meaning of everlasting.

Hello, I definitely agree with you! I'm not quite sure how she's getting something different, but she also believes that God didn't reveal "Hell" (eternal torment) until the NT. Even though none of the words in the NT carry that meaning.  :dunno2:

Not sure who Melissa Scott, but I read the NT in Greek and to me it points to universal reconciliation more than the English does, because nothing is lost (or altered) in translation.

She must be thinking of the mistranslation of Gehenna, the Valley of Hinnom, on the side of Jerusalem as "Hell". Even though it's a physical valley used to burn bodies, where it's impossible for the fire to burn forever. (If it is burning forever, then either that's a lotta fuel (like what, endless firewood?) or we've just discovered an infinite source of man-made energy XD)

Either that or Hades. But we know that that's just a port of Sheol from Hebrew OT as Psalm 16:10 Acts 2:27 tell us. Simply the realm of the dead.

Or tartarus, but again, that's just where the fallen angels are. Nothing ECT in this verse. 2 Peter 2:4
