Daniel 7:14 And 1 Corinthians 15:24

I don't believe in contradictions in the Bible but there are some passages that seem to contradict each other.

Daniel 7:14-And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.

1 Corithians 15:24-then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.

The bolded phrases are the ones that are difficult to harmonize. First Daniel is speaking of the prophecy of Christ's coming kingdom. It says "His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away" where everlasting is αἰώνιος in the LXX. We know that αἰώνιος means eonian or age lasting so how can his kingdom be age lasting but it will not come to an end?

And second if His kingdom doesn't come to an end how do you harmonize 1 Cor 15:24 where is says that he hands over the kingdom to the Father?

Maybe God's (Father) kingdom is also Jesus' kingdom?  By extension or "family" relation/connection?  Just primarily the Father's?   :Chinscratch:

That makes me think about 'The angel of the Lord'study I did.
In one verse we read 'the angel said', the next verse the angel is adressed as God in person.
Or who destroyed Sodom and Gomorah? God (Gen 19:24) or angels *Gen 19:13)?


The answer lays in the ancient mindset. A representative of the king speaks with the kings authority. Disobeying the representative is disobeying the king.

Another example is Moses and Aaron. In many verses we read "Moses said to pharao". But did Moses really say that? Moses grumbled when God gave him his task. He complained he couldn't speak well etc. Then God said Ok, let Aaron do the talking



Exodus 4:10-17 New Living Translation (NLT)

10 But Moses pleaded with the Lord, "O Lord, I'm not very good with words. I never have been, and I'm not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled."
11 Then the Lord asked Moses, "Who makes a person's mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord?
12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say."
13 But Moses again pleaded, "Lord, please! Send anyone else."
14 Then the Lord became angry with Moses. "All right," he said. "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you. 15 Talk to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will instruct you both in what to do.
16 Aaron will be your spokesman to the people. He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of God for him, telling him what to say.
17 And take your shepherd's staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you."

Let the bolded part sink in. For Aaron, Moses' words were of equal absolte supreme truth as if God in person stood before him (Aaron).

ESV puts it even more clearly/directly:
16 He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be as God to him.




Discussing things with an angels who talks to you under/with authority of God Himself is/was adressed as God, not because the angel is God, but because the words are from God.

I have many more such examples. Dozens can be found in the OT.

So... back to your question. I think Jesus never will really have a kingdom of His own. But He does have a Kingdom under God's authority. A reprenstative with utmost authority.

yet again, as in so many instances, the translation seems not accurate...I went to Biblehub and found the literal translation, as follows:

'...His kingdom not DESTROYED'.....Jesus kingdom is not DESTROYED but He hands it to the Father = no contradiction at all.

IMO, which has already been said by others here, it is the "dominion" that is handed over, not who rules "in" the dominion.

It is like handing over "a land" (the dominion) back to the Father, I see the words "dominion" and "kingdom" as synonymous between the Old Testament and the New Testament

He is not handing back "the authority" in the dominion/kingdom, He is handing back the dominion/kingdom itself because they (the Father and the Son) rule as one "IN" the dominion/kingdom.

With this, there is no contradiction
