How will sinners be purified in the Lake of Fire?

I've been thinking about that a lot recently and how would one be purified by a metaphorical fire? Will God just magically change their heart? What would the consequences be for choosing to disobey God?

2 Peter 3:7,10,12
These verses talk about the burning away of the works.
Paul mentions in 1Cor 5:5 how we are saved but the burning away of the flesh so that no person can take credit for the works of Christ.
Then Revelations points that God will wipe away every tear.
He will take the blinders from their eyes.
Seems to show God has this all happening a specific schedule.

So the consequence are that we would have to endure the destruction of the flesh.

..and flesh may have more to do with "carnality/sin" (fleshly nature)   :2c:  :)
The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

Jesus said that everyone must be salted with fire.. We experience that now.. And He baptizes us with Holy Spirit and with fire. The fire of God's Spirit! His Presence with us, because "our God is a consuming fire" and "God is a Spirit".. a purifying fiery Spirit. "Didn't our hearts burn within us when He spoke with us along the way?!" He burns away - by His very Presence - that carnal (selfish/sinful) character called in ye olde englishe, "the flesh".

I've been thinking along the same lines, and have actually come to the conclusion that the ages - Paul mentioned - (or I think it was Paul) - ages which follow this one are typified by the ancient Fall Holy Days (of Leviticus 23). Those ages being Jesus' long second advent, which seems to me to have three peaks, which is interesting as there are three holy days.

Jesus, with His first advent fulfilled the Spring Holy Days more precisely than we at first know because of confusing elements of the hebrew calendar.. And for some perhaps it's too literal to see..?

The Fall Holy Days are of course:

Trumpets (of Rev. & His return? which is when all believers rise; 1 Thess.4 & 1 Cor.15:52-53)
     10 days later
Day of Atonement -- "TODAY" is OUR Day of Atonement & for being salted with fire, etc. So when is the one for the rest of humanity? When Jesus can complete the drawing of ALL to Him - John 12:32. And when "ALL  the ends of Earth will remember (in the Hebrew "come to their senses") and turn to the LORD, and ALL the families of the nations will worship/rejoice before Him" - Psalm 22:27.
        5 days later
Tabernacles - In Rev. 21, God makes all things new (1-5) - Peter wrote that the elements will melt with a furious heat - and Rev. says "death and the grave are cast to the lake of fire" - which is the 2nd death --- the first death being through Adam, and then at the "all in all" event when God makes ALL things new, shall death, the grave and all suffering and its cause imperfection ("missing the mark" translated sin.. "the Holy Spirit will convince the world concerning sin".. (when? Most seem to think this is all done on an individual basis, and in a sense of course! But I think "He has His seasons".. I think, surely(?) He is very organized. At this point - Rev.21 / ALL things being new, God says He will now tabernacle with mankind upon Earth made new.

I think Peter said it - in 2 Peter 2:9 - "God knows how to preserve the unjust for correction on Day of Judgment".

Jesus returns every eye seeing Him and the dead in Christ rise, but the rest of the dead rise not, until after the thousand years - Rev.20.

If the 10 days between Trumpets and Day of Atonement typifies the thousand years / the millennium, then why not the 5 days between Day of Atonement and Tabernacles represent 500 years. Is that long enough for ALL the ends of Earth to turn to the LORD and for Jesus to draw ALL to Himself?

-- The Book of Rev. mentions lake of fire 3 times.

At the return of Jesus -- (amidst fiery Armageddon)

At the "ALL in ALL" fiery event --

And at the fiery final defeat of the adversary (Rev.20)

Yes, call me crazy, but I now am quite convinced the Lake of fire is the splitting of the atom.

..but of course many/most of Christendom think we have eternal life without Jesus, or that is, without being born again.. so the teachings are that judgment day is at each persons death and while they are alive during death. But I truly think God is much more organized, and Merciful, than to have any sort of afterlife imprisonment or holding cell where some would languish for a long while.. The two ideas, to me, are "Surely you won't die?" versus "Dust you are and to dust shall you return".

Jesus said "ALL in the tombs, will hear His voice and rise.. some to the resurrection of life.. and some to the resurrection of judgment". John 5:28 -- Which I believe shall last 500 years. Day Of Atonement (DOA) for the (initially) DOA (dead on arrival/not YET reconciled before they died, so they rise, initially "still in their sins".)
