Weird impulse to say "Thank You" to God after helping someone?

Do you ever get an impulse to say "thank you" to God(or otherwise express thanks to God) in a way that surprises you or doesn't immediately make sense to you? The interesting thing about this is that I don't have a strong habit of saying thanks to God, I generally just pray for help and guidance. Honestly, when I do decide that I ought to thank God, it can often feel like I am just going through the motions, except sometimes I have an impulse to thank God when I feel he has comforted me or reminded me of something incredible that he has done for me or others. So I don't say this to be super pious or anything, but I often have an impulse to thank God after I've helped someone.

One example is often when I am going to round up chickens roosting outside the coop when the weather is bad or going to get bad(so they don't have to spend all night in the rain or cold). Even though I would rather not be out there, I often still get the impulse. I feel like it would take more effort not to say it and it seems like God is giving me the impulse.

A few explanations I have thought of are...

1. I am thankful God has moved me to do a good thing.
2. It wasn't really just me doing the good thing but I recognize on some level that God has done the good thing and that I have witnessed it.
3. I am thankful for the opportunity.
4. I am thankful the person is helped.
5. I feel like I have helped Jesus(in whatever way I have helped the person in need. Yes, even with the chickens) and I feel thankful that I am given the ability to give back to Jesus.
6. I feel thankful for the sudden feelings of thankfulness and happiness.

totally agree with this post.......yes,it is God who causes us to will and do His good pleasure.

  I do believe it is the lifting up   in Jesus Christ and drawing all men unto Him   ,

into the presence of Gods love   in the purest and expressed   form  of  knowing is peace and joy  set before us ... a lively hope

To be honest, I think I understand this in a very different way. I tend to struggle to pray for the major things: life decisions, friends and family that are hurting/going through a rough time, things that are generally prayed for.

However, I get these random impulses to give thanks almost daily, while doing seemingly mundane things. We recently took a mini-roadtrip, and while driving through an area that many people would find less than appealing, I just gave thanks to God for His creation.

I also hate the feeling of "going through the motions" and generally feel awkward about prayer (as I always saw prayer as something impersonal, praying to a distant God and MAYBE He'll hear me and MAYBE He'll answer in some way.) however, I've noticed that as my views (slowly) change about the nature of God and the meaning of prayer, I have become content with imperfect prayer. Sometimes it's simply "Thank you God." because I know that He knows what I'm trying to say, and other times it's specific.

My mother would say that's the Holy Spirit talking  :thumbsup:

 :2c:what I believe you're post is referring too,is simply this....the difference between obligatory-form of worship[mere lipservice]

and heartfelt communion[worship/adoration/love] for your Father.

I consider what He has revealed on His feelings in regard to the unrighteous riches[give freely from the heart,not under compulsion]

and deem that even more so..in regard to what He truly treasures. Love has it's requirements...but they are never

burdensome/obligatory.

  LOVE SHOULD ALWAYS BE GIVEN FREELEY....and the ability to do that...is the TRUE LIBERTY OF THE SONS OF GOD.... :HeartThrob:
