The Baptism

I’m wondering how closely related is “washing” (bathing) and “baptism”? And I came across this verse - Malachi 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? FOR HE IS LIKE A REFINER’S FIRE, AND LIKE FULLERS’ SOAP.  [Twofold coming? One being His coming to each heart.. and the other His coming in glory with clouds, angels, and fire.] Soap is used for bathing.

Is this why His (essence of being a) consuming fire is referred to as a lake? Because baptism is a “washing”..

He baptizes His followers with the Holy Spirit and with Fire..

The laver was for washing before entering the tabernacle / temple, and also after leaving and going back into the world..

So lake of fire is also the laver of washing? and is a spiritual process and not a “place”..? A literal orocess but not a literal place..?

Also, as we know and is so good for pointing out to others the nateure of the fire is Romans 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of FIRE on his head.

If we give a drink and food to our 'enemy' when he needs it.. what shall it cause? Or what's most likely? Won't that one who hates you, at least have some thought about maybe this person I hate so much, isn't so bad after all. A little softening.. shades of, or a nudge toward repentance perhaps..

There is of course no logic to thinking the "coals of fire" (toward change?) are literal coals of burning fire! It just doesn't jive with bless your 'enemies'.

After that we can consider Molech and how that fiery practice was "abomination" to God and of course He abhored it.. Wasn't it kind of like His last straw with Israel?

I personally enjoy when the Lake of Fire is examined with scriptures.

I feel that it is pivotal in the UR thinking and understanding of the Bible, and how the pieces fit smoothly, and reliably.

Thank you both for giving us all some scriptures to meditate on and some 'fuel for the fire' of the debate regarding UR.

The Passion translation uses lavish in some parts. Example:

I do! ( :2c: ) It's all, after all, His Spirit, isn't it? Which is "the promise of the Father".. which elsewhere says is how one is born again/transformed, the process of.. is how one is enabled to "overcome"..

"Our God is a consuming" (purifying) "Fire" ..purity consumes impurity like light consumes darkness..

And worship and thanksgiving increases the anointing..  He is a consuming fire.. He is love..

A consuming fire of love.. A (ultimately and in reality is a true) "burnt offering"? Praise like incense rising..?
