As most of you know, I just LOVE proverbs of various kinds, and sometimes I write my own.

So, on other forums, I noticed that some people put forward what they call "Proof Texts."   :punish:

On the same forums, other are accused of "Cherry Picking."  :declare:

I put it all together like this:

"CHERRY-PICKING" - A LIST OF VERSES UPHOLDING A THEOLOGY THAT I DON'T LIKE.

"PROOF-TEXT" - A LIST OF VERSES UPHOLDING A THEOLOGY I APPROVE OF.

Or...you could say it this way:  One man's proof-text is another man's cherry-picking.  :laughing7:

Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

YHVH = Behold the Nail, Behold the Hand = Jesus
