Sin and deception

I thought this was an interesting parallel.

Here we have Paul saying he was alive once without the law.

Then the law came,

and sin, taking occasion by the law, DECEIVED Paul, resulting in death.

So, Paul says that sin deceives us, because of the commandment; resutling in death.

Rom 7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

Rom 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

Rom 7:10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

Rom 7:11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.


Now in Genesis, Adam and Eve were given a command, the "law"

Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.


Now this to me is interesting, in Romans, Paul says "sin" deceived him;

and here in Genesis

the "serpent" deceives Eve

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Gen 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.


The result, the same as Paul says=death

Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.


So what i'm wondering, is "sin" and "serpent" the same thing?

Both come to life with a command, both deceive, and the result was death.

Good stuff.

Law is not evil. It has always been good.
Tree of knowlege is not evil, it too has always been good.

Sin has convinced us that the Law was the way to Salvation.
Serpent convinced us that eating of the tree of knowledge would make us God.
Transgression of the Law leads to death.
Transgression of the Command leads to death.

Law and the Tree of Knowledge had NOTHING to do with it.
