The verse - "Then began he to reproach the cities in which were done most of his mighty works, because they did not repent." - Matthew 11:20

Made  me think of the foot washing   , When Jesus told  Peter   you are  totally clean by the WORD /Jesus teaching them  , being with Him ,  the truth purifying their hearts and cleansing  their minds   of evil  thoughts , all but the feet , this by touching the earth , shake off the dust    and keep   washing each others feet , the teaching of Jesus Christ   continuing with one another  with Him in their midst/Focus .

I realize  Judas heart become filled with Satan, and that was Why Jesus   said this , because the scriptures had to be fulfilled . :sigh:

God does use evil /corruption    so good  can  rise up out of corruption , as every last one of us has  come from and bore that very image  ,  by bearing the earthly image  , so  shall also bear the heavenly image    of the incorruptible Word  of God ,being   Our Lord Jesus Christ  Image

Repent, to have a change of heart and mind.. I think a whole new change of heart and mind.. whereas rebound means to bounce back.. kind of like getting up after falling down.. So in a sense, I can see, one rebounds, but only by God and His Spirit, not a bouncing back on our own.. and before the bouncing back we are changed in heart and mind (attitude, etc) - Reborn.. made new..

Penance is voluntary self-punishment inflicted as an outward expression of repentance for having done wrong.. I think this actually happens on a subconscious(?) level sometimes.. a way of oppressing ones self? But mostly I believe one simply suffers consequences.. ("The wages.. of sin..") Even the big picture, the collective.. I believe the "Day of the LORD" will be mankind's chickens coming home to roost. (Yes, I often think in cliches. :laughing7: )

First thing Christ did was to tell the people to repent.
Paul states we should not be conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of our mind - ergo complete repentance.
The difficulty is what to be repented/change to.
Many "false" teachers cause repentance, just to the wrong beliefs.
This would be why Paul warns against being led away from the truth and to remain focussed on Christ alone.
To refute the false one needs to comprehensively grasp the truth- then the false stands out like a sore thumb.
So complete repentance frees us from the variations which lead many astray.
This changes everything we value and the direction we walk and are led nobly by Christ.

P.S would also be why Paul points out our changes in thinking;

1 Cor 2;16 " For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to advise Him?
                   BUT WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST."

Mind - nous - intellect, intelligent faculty, thought, conception,

Since all wisdom is "In Christ" [ Col 2;3] this would seem advisable and worth pursuing completely.

 :thumbsup: Amen.. :iagree: ..."the washing of the Word." ..."His word is truth".. the sWord of truth that pierces all things, separating true thread from untrue and untrue from true..

I've been reflecting lately that in my own walk, I never made much progress.. nor as much peace and joy.. until I got serious with God's word.. (part of what I ended up doing was making a reading schedule that I loosely follow every year, blending the gospels in two 6 month readings that help me enter the story (and i read different versions) and read the letters in the order written.. Acts each year, revelation sometimes each year.. psalms, but need to read the prophets again (in order written) - As far as 'authority'-I've gotten to the point that I really don't care what any person thinks about God's Word, or thinks it says.. I'm perfectly capable of reading it myself.. Though I do read a lot of commentaries.. but especially search out the interlinear. And then there's considering the big picture of God's word(s) and also all verses which apply to topics..

I have veRy much enjoyed coming across folks on the web who study and take God's Word seriously too! :cloud9: And I think, any one who does.. I think they will find layers peeling away -  will escape the mental box! And become able to see UR!
