If hell is sheol, well it doesn't seem to make sense when you swap hell for sheol...unless I'm reading it wrong?

hi! I've just always assumed God is able to destroy body and life, even forever.. but that He doesn't, He interfered by sending His Son to be savior of the world.. "this is my flesh I give for the life of the world" Jn 6

G1067 - geenna: Gehenna, a valley W. and South of Jer., also a symbolic name for the final place of punishment of the ungodly

    - but which I believe refers to Armageddon, the last fiery battle, and perhaps others before it such as the razing of Jerusalem in 70 a.d. where/when there is judgment (on Earth) and destruction of body and life

...it also says in the biblehub interlinear link to Strong's Concordance, about geena, gehenna - (which seems merely imagination to me) -
         
              Gehenna ("hell"), the place of post-resurrection torment (judgment), refers strictly to the everlasting abode of the unredeemed where they experience divine judgment in their individual resurrection-bodies. Each of the unredeemed receives one at the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev 20:11-15), i.e. a body that "matches" their capacity for torment relating to their (unique) judgment.

wow, I never heard anything like thAt before.. I wonder if that idea is in the Talmud (myths) -- of course to me, the "resurrected body" idea.. while the immortal soul floats - the idea being the "immortality put on" at Jesus' return (1 Cor 15) is a new body so the immortality we put on refers to putting it on the new body.. but this is all conjecture, as I've not seen it written out in God's word.

It's from "it's sown a natural body and is raised a spiritual body" and how "the spirit" (greek pneuma/breath/breath of life?/life?) "returns to God who gave it"

But! I'm getting sidetracked, I guess..

If I remember right 'hell' is the translation (or was) for four words,

sheol "where there is no thought or doing"

geena, gehenna, a valley outside Jerusalem symbolizing judgment; it's where babes were offered (live) through fire to other baal-molech [Obadiah 16 - what one does returns upon their own head]

hades, the greek word for place of the dead, or not seen - hades, being as a proper word, a part of their mythology, like many others, a gloomy afterlife with levels for good and for evil (doers) - I think it's likely Jesus did not speak Greek, though some of the new testament letters were likely written in greek if to gentile believers

tartarus in greek myth was the lowest level, stood for darkest darkness

My take on this verse is:

Since the original meaning of the word "soul" here is breath, I believe it is a reference to what we speak or what is spoken

Anyone can kill our physical body but not everyone can kill what we speak

and in this second part it is a different reference in that Christ is speaking of His body

His body is the Word and the breath that we speak with is His breath/Spirit

I believe it is a warning to new believers in UR (since that was what was spoken the first 500 years or so), those who lack understanding in the word, who are immature in understanding can easily be swayed to an ET mindset

The ET mindset can kill both the body of Christ (the Word) and His Spirit (breath/soul) in young believers

This also goes along with what marie glen said in that babes (immature believers) were/are sacrificed alive to another god

But this is just my opinion
