It is a very good argument, Chester. The word for propitiation is the same as that of "mercy seat" in Greek. So He is the mercy seat for the whole world. In the Old Covenant, the lamb's blood would be sprinkled on the mercy seat by the high priest once a year (on the Day of Atonement) for the forgiveness of the sins of the people. What a great picture we have of Christ as both the blood and the mercy seat, in this new covenant!

Amen! "the Mercy Seat"..

And Day of Atonement was a national / collective day of repentance and reconciliation.. a shadow (imo) of things to come.. (long 2nd advent? Trumpets - DOA / judgment 'day' - Tabernacles)

A single verse isn't an argument. But it belongs IN the argument because it shows that Jesus is not only our Jesus but theirs too. If anything, it is not good for the limited Atonement argument of Calvinism.

Seth, though reading this verse from King James Timothy 1 chapter2, seems pretty conclusive that all are saved.

1 I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giuing of thanks be made for all men:
