It should have been interpreted as "perpetual".  That is what my Young's Analytical Concordance renders for the meaning for both occurrences of Greek work in the NT.

Ok...what is the word in Greek? Is it the same word they translate age enduring?

The Greek word is "aidios"

The word often translated as 'Age Enduring' is typically the Greek word "aionios".

My interpretation of the difference is this:

aidios - perpetual - meaning something continues with emphasis on no interruption until a specific time (in the context of where it used.  Let's take a case in point:

Jud 1:6  And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

In the verse above the word is traslated as "everlasting".  However, this is the same Greek word aidios.  So this is perpetual.  But notice that it is perpetual darkness UNTIL the day of Judgment.  So here the darkness is CONSTANT and without wavering (hence perpetual).

Now aionios on the other hand is in reference to the age in really is referring to something that continues beyond the age boundary (but not necessary constant as it doesn't speak to that and not necessary for the rest of eternity as it doesn't speak to that either.)

So Aionios is really describing something that CONTINUES without regard to the end of its duration (could end - or may not end - it doesn't address it).  They way it is often used in the Bible is in describing something that should bring our attention to the next age that comes after the item it is describing - typically the next age when Christ ushers in His Kingdom.

Also in this case the word eternal is describing God so it fits the context.

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
(NIV translation but you get the jist of the quote. Was gonna use YLT but sometimes it's just so garbled I can't read it without making my brain hurt, even though I like YLT)

 Thank you...ya..that verse shows there's mistranlastions everlasting means eternal, never ending but it says Until judgement
Ya..I like Youngs for study or checking things but ots difficult to read. They have a modern version now..it sould be easier to read.  :gimmefive:

I have no problem with the word eternal. Olam to aion, aion to eternal. Eternal is not the same to me as "everlasting". Eternal is "other worldly", "time transcendent". It is about the nature of the life, not the duration of it. I dont know why the translators sometimes used "everlasting" and sometimes used "eternal", but to me, "eternal" is just fine in the context of Romans 1:20

       :Peace2: :gsmile:

p.s - anymore we (humans, believers and culture) are so steeped in the "surely you won't die?" concept of inherent immortality, that we think in those terms which includes "forever" - I've never forgotten how years ago when I was looking up "forever" in the Strong's concordance and found it nowhere.. thought there was a mistake made, but of course it was two words, for ever  :laughing7: and of course, it wasn't "forever" at all... Now, of course I get more the sense of Yahweh is life itself.. gave the Son (to have) life in himself, but I don't think of any of us as having eternal life exactly.. but more like "he/she who has the Son has life" and he/she who doesn't, doesn't have life (yet).. And of course now, we are learning that exact lesson, imo, the foundation lesson of "life" or "not life" i.e. good from evil, life from nonlife.. step away from God who is life.. is a very futile thing, the utmost in ridiculousness.. Can't be done, if it could be done it can only ever end in 'crash and burning' as the saying goes (i.e. can only result in a self destructive wisp of 'smoke' and vapor; the unveiling/revealing truth that anything not built on the Rock cannot endure. This reminds me that He can only be Perfect, or HE too would fade (? :faint: as if!) therefore the 'end result of all this (human history and life as we presently know it) can only be the utterly best one possible... (hope I didn't stray to far, or away from the topic) ...God bless all..

P.S - I like the interlinears listed here - http://studybible.info/ - because they have the Strong's numbers as links included with each word so I can look words up and read about them for myself.

translating aion to forever or everlasting is incorrect.

when going from olam through aion to eternal- the translation can be correct, because eternal involves more than duration, as does olam  :2c:

I totally agree  :dsunny:      Only God is    everlasting   eternal and   without end .. immortality    ,,etc.   the age of experiencing God is without end  :HeartThrob:

I see as  others have shared also   :dsunny:  awesome   guys ,,
and age or a set time
as those without any law , being and age [and all   things  found in it ] can be very short or long in the fact being none of us are in a mortal state    for very long at all

If a 1000  Years is one day to God     and we live in a mortal state of 70 years  , What can this mean in Gods sight  , but a vapour ,breath ?

I believe the stumbling  over   eternal   and everlasting   , being an age of    [ those  under the law ] and judged by the law being  put to death [ This generation   all the  things of the tree of knowledge of good and evil will come upon  by JESUS HIMSELF  DECLARING  IT .  Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

Now have passed  from death to Life by Him [  Way to the Tree of Life ]

I can also see the age of Jesus Christ grace as being   and everlasting age without end to be presented to the FATHER .

Him being the resurrection   and the LIFE       , When He told Martha  her brother would rise again because of Him     , Lazarus was dead under the law [age  duration ] perpetual    "aidios"    age of  judgments  and   dividing & separating   within  us  putting to death by the law ,  the Pharisees  were calling  holy   and sadducees  no resurrection / no Jesus Christ in power  .. just dead  , this never sat well with my  :2c:    always  believe there was more to life than a dirt nap for ages and ages  and ages

But By Gods grace  and truth    was risen from death  to  everlasting LIFE  ,,, in Christ all shall live , He paved the new  way  by HIS  works  for us

Jesus said ,  though he be dead  he shall live /under the law and those alive shall never die /In Christ now,   can you believe this ?

It just proves to me the carnal mind is an enemy against the SPIRIT /LIFE ITSELF
and being carnally minded is death      ,  as death reigns   an age  of everlasting duration    from Adam to Moses    another age  of lasting duration of being under Law  and being  twice dead     and  by faith , the age of grace and truth in Christ that is  an age  of duration   till  every bit   of GODS WORD IS  fulfilled

  :2c:
Jesus is the reward  !!
