Barbara

My name is Barbara. I have been reading Tentmaker and other sites since 2002. I found out about UR like most of us have, searching for answers and truth. We were tired after about 25 years in charsmatic churches and a lot of abuse and control over the years. My husband gave up and we havent been in church in about 10 years. I have always had a strong desire to know God so I continued my spiritual life by reading and looking on the internet. I still have a lot of questions and believe many can be answered here.
Have been married to an awesome man for 42 years, have four daughters and five grandchildren.

Hi Barbara, Welcome.

I wonder if you would mind answering a question for me. My wife and I have been out of church for about two years now mainly because I just do not think that God is there anymore. I feel that He has led me out of the institutional church and He has been teaching me so many things since I obeyed the call to come out.

My wife is really having a harder time than I am with this especially because she hates that our 15 year old is not in church at a critical time in his life.

My question is whether you regret that this wonderful man you are married to no longer wants to attend church in light of all that you have learned from God through the internet and all? I really feel that this condition is temporary and God will again gather those who have been scattered by Him. My wife hopes so, but I truly believe so and this makes it easier for me. I am reminded of the scripture in Hebrews that describes Jesus as enduring the cross because of the joy that had been set before Him by God.

I just can't go back until it changes or until the Lord lets me raise up a work that is different, but I feel guilty sometimes for leading my family out of church. We have been very active in church all of our married life and mostly in full time ministry, but it is just different now for me.

Hello John
Thank you for the welcome. My husband and I went through some very difficult times during those years being active in church. We became Christians 10 years after we were married. I had a much stronger desire to serve God than he did but but he was always faithful to God. He was extremely hurt by Christians and he just decided to not deal with it and quit going. I found Gods truth about UR but he does not want to hear or talk about it. He has been given the gift to give and serve. We were not in any type of leadership role. He was taken advantage of many times.

I wouldn't say I regret that we don't go to church I am happier since we quit going. I am sad that he is in the place he is in spiritually and that I am alone at this time in my walk. It is what it is and I can only trust that God will have his will done.

I don't know if I can be much help in the area of your son but I will say what my kids experienced as children that were in church as teenagers and they seen and experienced the things that we went through it didn't give them a desire for God. One of my daughters says she is agnostic and it breaks my heart.

My faith in Christ keeps me going regardless of my circumstances and that is why I am on this forum. Once you are convinced that God is the savior of all there is no going back and in time God will work with your wife and give her peace. Thats all you can do.
