"God doesn't send us to Hell; we send ourselves there" argument.

About 'Who made hell?', I have often heard people say God created hell for the devil and demons, and it was not meant for people. Yet people end up there because they listened to the devil instead of God. Anyone heard that statement? I get the idea it is a very common opinion in evangelical churches.

By the way I think this comes from Matthew 25, where people are sent into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. People could also use this Scripture to show people chose this 'hell', because of their poor choices in life. Not to play the Devil's advocate though. I'm  trying to figure out where certain ways of thinking come from, in order to be better equipped to refute those.

I think if God created hell for the devil and angels and didn't intend for humans to end up there, but then humans end up there, this "god" is not all-knowing. If He knows the beginning from the end, He can't intend for something to happen or not happen, and then let the opposite of what he intended to happen (if my wording makes sense). Just as the argument that God wants all to be saved, but won't be able to accomplish this, would make God frustrated for all of eternity, wanting something but never attaining it.

I think Matthew 25 is talking about the lake of fire and in Revelation 'hell' is thrown into the lake of fire so that is the end of death. For myself, I would never use the word 'hell' because that is the grave or death, not torture in fire forever like what is seared into most peoples brains. And Gehenna, also translated 'hell', should have been left Gehenna like other place names. And 'forever' and 'eternal' are also mistranslations as I'm sure you already know. Like you, I'm also trying to be better equipped to refute these arguments.
