I gather elect has origins in Calvinism although its perclations are widespread .Who is elect how can we know ? I worry sometimes for my fine friends who are not christian. I know i d be a nuisance if i tried to convert anyone and really don t know how to do it.
Especially not by discussion. Now this elect thing has been brought up by a friend and i don t know if it has any truth that we should heed ? What s best on this ??

Hi friend.  I'd like to quickly weigh in.  As i see it, the "elect" didn't begin with Calvin.  He may have emphasized it to fit his paradigm, but the elect is a scriptural term that's used in various places.

Others will surely (gasp lol) have different views on it, but I believe it has to do with the fact that some will be drawn and given faith to believe on Jesus in this life (the elect) while the rest will only believe when every knee bows and every tongue confesses.   I believe there are reasons for God's timing and planning, so there must be a good purpose for some being elected now.  Perhaps many reasons, but including being called to share the gospel now, help others see and come to the Savior, and be salt and light in this dark world.  Some also believe the elect will serve certain ministries and positions of service in the next age, again, helping (shepherding) others into the kingdom.  Just some thoughts;  I'm sure you'll get more.  :)   :dsunny:
The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

This is the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod stand on pre-determination and election.

Basically, it says all are called, and some respond by accepting God's Grace. It states that God's love for lost sinners is universal and that God wants to bring all sinners to himself. Those who do not manifest their 'election', do so because they say NO to the Holy Spirit, who continually calls them to union with God. Ultimately, if you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are one of God's elect.

It is what I believe, too, except that now, I am a Christian Universal Redemptionist, as well.   :Gdance:

7"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened....

Matthew 7:7 -8

I loved the flow , it was  awesome and scripturally sound ...  James ..    :iagree:     :HeartThrob:

scriptures that helped me also realize  the purpose of the ''elect''
Just as the prophets of their day were chosen   in the Old testament   , they had the Spirit of  prophecy  in them  , which is the testimony of Jesus Christ

26"Then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS with great power and glory. 27"And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.

earnest of   the spirit  a pledge deposit guarantee  ...13In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.

Acts 20:28
Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

Acts 20:32
"Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

1 Corinthians 1:30
It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

2 Corinthians 1:22
set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Ephesians 1:6
to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace

Ephesians 1:11
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,

I see these   scriptures as to   ''given as elect'' chosen   for Gods service   especially  ,  running the race   as only one   wins the prize  , being the Christ seed and sinless one not able to be corrupted ,  deposited in your heart by the Lord to  water and grow  as God gives the increase   of truth and grace .

1 JOHN    God love though Christ
Love Comes from God
...8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

9By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins....

Spirit of God   &   spirit of Christ    BEING THE TRUTH AND GRACE    =  Propitiation is the act of appeasing or making well-disposed a deity, thus incurring divine favor or avoiding divine retribution=punishment that is considered to be morally right and fully deserved:

Romans 8

9However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.

But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

I see this as the fulfilling of the law  [ Christ come to fulfill the law  and the seed deposited  in your heart ,  Cheist in you the hope of glory ]    having Both the Father and the Son  , Jesus come  to   show us the LOVE OF GODS  HEART  towards  mankind  ,
the fulness of Him dwells    BY THE HOLY SPIRIT    where true  love and forgiveness   begins   within to be completed     [made whole]

10If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness....= an attribute that implies that a person's actions are justified, and can have the connotation that the person has been "judged" or "reckoned" as leading a life that is pleasing to God.

John 14:17
the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 14:23
Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Without faith   it is impossible to please God     , and  Christ in you is the hope of glory and   Love is the greatest thing  , and  these 3   are given   though Jesus Christ when he poured out His own spirit on all flesh    and in the HOLY SPIRIT   , the Father & the Son   and all those gathered already in Christ       is  ministering LIFE     to us     ...

I have considered the     12 manner of fruits   on both sides of the river   in Rev  22 as being the tree of Life   that those  whom inherit   incorruption [incorruptible seed   , Christ in you   growing in truth and grace ]    the Lambs  book of life , those lambs   that are Christ seed /Word of God .. handled word of life John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:4
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1 peter 1 The Word of the Lord Stands Forever
22Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, 23for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

The River of Life
1Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;...

Genesis 2:9
The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Ezekiel 47:12
Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing."

Zechariah 14:8
On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.

Revelation 2:7
Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Revelation 22:14
"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

Revelation 22:19
And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

Several scriptures and tried not to say much ..lol :gimmefive:
