I don't understand with my heart yet. I realize when something doesn't make sense to me, it's usually one thing or the other:
1. I'm not perceiving it yet, need revelation, maybe it's not God's timing yet for that part for me
2. 'something's wrong' and my spirit refuses to take it in.
In the past I often forced myself to accept certain beliefs, even if it did not make sense to my spirit. Like the belief in hell or tithing. Later I found out it did not make sense to my heart, because God did not want it to. So I'm trying to figure out whether it's 1 or 2... in order to truly live something, I need a YES in my spirit and not just mental assent...

That's why I'm asking about water baptism. I have not an opinion about it, I just don't see it (yet).

, I love your honesty !! 
  I confess  when I first come to the Tentmaker 8 years ago .
   so many of these posts   did not resonate within my spirit  I was just not ready to receive them  yet .
  I  now  can read  many  that have left or passed on or     just stopped being at the Tentmaker   all them years ago .
  But I can now understand their posts    ,

It is the Holy Spirit that gives us just what we need when we need it    , we are all growing in truth and grace as God gives the increase     ..

Absolutely Abigail. No one here would have it any other way. We share what we believe, but we don't all see everything the same, so each one must wait upon the Lord for resolution.

 I see John's ministry/baptism as a small pictoral acted out of what the coming Messiah would do.

   Repent..have your sins washed away[go down into Jordan]...come up out of death[Jordan] and dove[Holy spirit]

  descend on you[as part of being His body]..


     Jesus.[.GREATER THEN JOHN]  washed them with His words of truth/ye are all clean because of the word I have

   spoken to you. He that has been bathed only needs his feet washed[Holy spirit to lead/teach in the way of truth]

     Just as the priestly arrangement was a copy...to prepare for the greater reality....I believe John the Baptist's

  ministry was a preparatory copy/symbol of the  GREATER REALITY OF JESUS MINISTRY.


  to me...after recieving the Holy spirit and Jesus why would we go back to the symbol.

   however,those just coming out of the world in repentance may want a water baptism..as a symbol/preparatory

  to being washed in His word/and baptised by His Holy spirit.

I think I trump everyone...baptized 3 times infant then as beleiver(mennonite) and finally in the jordan where jesus was baptized
The one that was the most difficult to deal with in my heart was the second one,since I was a "confirmed beleiver" and a full member of a church but to be married as a member of the new mennonite church,I had to be baptized as a beleiver
Well finally I did go through with it.My testimony in front of the church was the fact I would humble my self and follow Jesus example and I would proceed as a witness to my faith and trust in God, and listen to the spirit and not all the other voices out there
This is probably where I started questioning the doctrines of man....

Multiple baptisms show the problem with relying on our response to Christ as a means to eternal salvation. The humblest among us will will always doubt to validity of their actions. With baptism what may come up is, "Did I really believe when I was baptized?" "Was I fully immersed?" or "Did I really repent of my sins?" "I've fallen into sin so I need to be washed again?" "What church was I baptized in?" I was also baptized three times. I know right away how foolish I was the last time and consider my adult one (second one) the most meaningful to me.

In my opinion even when we rely on "our" faith to save us there will be doubt. "Do I really believe?" "Am I believing correctly?"

I am sure glad that God is enough to save.

We can doubt the word of God at any point. There is no special reason why doubting the word of God about baptism is any different than doubting the word of God about anything else. Even is I am not baptized, I can doubt. Am I saved? Am I safe in the grace of God.

Baptism is only a benefit to our salvation and there is no reason to doubt the counsel of God.

"Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit......

There is power in the gospel proclaimed in faith as the apostles ministered it.   :2c:

Amen  , we share our testimony on how God deals with us  on a personal level  , and what we learn of Him  , as Christ is revealed , whom was hidden  from our  sight .
   without faith it is impossible to please God    , it is  the  very substance of things hoped for   , the Chrit in you    and hope of glory , seeing the glory of God   revealed  in our lives      , all our lives ..

It seems like we've got a double barrel trip going on here about baptism with two threads. I don't condemn anybody for anything they think they need or want to do for God, but I no longer believe I need to do anything but love God and my associates, and believe Jesus Christ died for our sins, was entombed, and roused from the dead by the power of God.
