What do you think of this Bible quote, from the story of Lazarus' Resurrection?

Dandelion

17On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18Now Bethany was less than two milesb from Jerusalem, 19and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.

21"Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask."

23Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."

24Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."

25Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?"  John 11: 17 - 26

In light of my recent exploration of UR, it seems to me to be saying that some will pass from this life to the next, in faith, without dying, and others will have to 'die' in a different way, and then be saved. To me, this fits right in with what I am learning about the meaning of our purification, before the 'all in all' occurs.

I often thought of this as a strange passage, in the way it is said, but all of a sudden, it makes perfect sense to me now.

Any thoughts, folks?
7"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened....

Matthew 7:7 -8

I believe you done a  beautiful job of perceiving this   Dandelion
With   new and spiritual eyes of understanding   His Light  , knowledge  of Him     :HeartThrob:

Blessed is he who is in the first resurrection   for the second death has no power over you .  He is now the Power in You  '' greater is He who is in you'' than in the world [evil one in the world ] .
     death  will not harm you
harm is what happens at the  second death

The first resurrection     is the same as the Lord   Jesus Christ     death , baptism     was the cross   and if we do as He commands  and take up our cross and      follow Him,wearing the crown of thorns, and suffering for the Kingdoms sake    ,  we to will also   receive the crown of Life       ''  to me this is the mind of Christ     ''

Jesus   was   tormented and  despised  the shame,   this crown of thorns     of the beastly mankind   ''mind of carnality ''   ruling and reigning  worldly men in worldly wisdom    that is earthly sensual and devilish ,  that is the enmity against the Spirit of Love   to which   JESUS CHRIST IS KING  Ruler

the humility  was   HE BORE  OUR SINS    IN HIS OWN FLESH  ,,, And suffered  greatly  for it    as innocent   as can be ...    without a word against them , but forgiving them    for they  do not know what they are doing  before the Father .....      the darkness and ignorance of carnal men , I am  one who He died for being   so carnal  and earthly   bound

Paul even experienced   a thorn in his flesh as a messenger of satan to   strike him    and suffered the humility  ,  we are to count this  persecution as  joy   one day     but Gods grace was covering  all , Paul and the messenger  of satan  as  Paul prayed for the removal   of the thorn in his flesh
the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak

It is a change only He can do  by His power   and HOLY SPIRIT      may we   all stay willing and obedient  to His HOLY desire that none  should  perish .

I thank God for changing me from that carnal   in nature  to the spiritual in nature  as a process   by discerning  between the two natures   of good and evil   , JESUS IS OUR PEACE

From the clutches of the evil one to the HOLY ONE   , HE IS AN  EXCELLENT  LORD , SHEPHERD  AND KEEPER of the sheep ..

This just  my  personal   view    dear ,   we all have our views   of the Lord Jesus Christ    and how we see Him   :HeartThrob:

..the parable of Lazarus, to me, is an illustration of the Day of Judgment - the comparison of the state of those of the first resurrection (of all believers when immortality and incorruptibility is "put on" ) and the 2nd resurrection "a thousand years later" (Rev 20:7,11) of all those who "died in their sins" (still in their sins, not yet reconciled/redeemed) ..resurrection of light and resurrection of darkness / still in darkness..

I believe, in that age (the 'day' of judgment) there will be a great gulf which cannot be breached until one realizes and (joyously) accepts the atonement/reconciliation..

[Also, the "darkness" of Rev 22:15, i believe, is spoken to them and us in "this day" and not referring to ultimate reality/the eternal ages future once God has become "all in all" - altho for ever, it is true that apart or wandering off or away from God, is darkness, a bottomless pit of potential ]

It helps to have an accurate translation because the ancient text doesn't say "never die."

"And everyone who is living and believing in Me, should by no means be dying for the eon. Are you believing this?" (John 11:26)

See the attachment for a comparison of translations.

..yep, "into the age" is quite a bit different from "never"

..we have "life in this age" His Life "and in the age to come"..

I think the word "eternal" is inaccurate and misleading, and the Greek "aionion" is better translated "eonian," even though folks aren't familiar with that word, because it's just the transliteration, or anglicization, of the Greek just as "eon" is of "aion." I think all the verses referring to "eonian life" point toward the future eons when the ecclesia, the body of Christ, will be immortalized. That's why there will be no "perishing" or "dying" "for the eon," but it's obviously not true now because we're all dying to die in our corrupt bodies. I understand that there is both figurative and literal death in scripture, but I don't think that means that believers will "never die." I think that's the lie of the serpent in the garden.

"But the serpent said to the woman: Not to die shall you be dying." (Genesis 3:4)

Our Life is now in Jesus CHRIST...
And the Life of Jesus CHRIST is now in our life...
With Jesus CHRIST, one has everything there is to have...
the Living CHRIST is all there is - LOVE DIVINE, CHRIST DIVINE.

Victory = set free from death

Living in the Light of the victory of the Spirit is of a different sphere of existence altogether from the living in shadow of physical death.

"The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned" [Matthew 4:16]

There is more going on than the material thinker assumes...

"You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden" [Matthew 5:14]

One must allow the Light to renew us...

"See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness" [Luke 11:35]

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light" [Ephesians 5:8-9]

God, through His Christ, whose Light is beyond the reach of mortal man, has made it possible that His followers can share in His Kingdom of Light...

"And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves" [Colossians 1:12-13]

"But it is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel" [2 Timothy 1:10]

Let us not diminish the Gift of the Message with any form of darkness...

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all" [1 John 1:5]

Peace
"A few drops of blood renew the whole world, and become for all men that which rennet is for milk, uniting and drawing us into one". "Christ is like leaven for the entire mass, and having made that which was damned one with himself, frees the whole from damnation".

Rosered, according to my understanding, you are blessed because you want to express your ideas in the sphere of Spirit...

"It is the spirit that is giving life; the flesh does not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life" [John 6:63]

...and therefore you can come and go in and out of the Door of the Spirit...

"Jesus said therefore again to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you: I am the door of the sheep" [John 10:7]

Similarly, I believe, if you wanted to express your ideas in the sphere of matter, this is where you will abide until desiring to respond to the call to "come up higher" to witness from the viewpoint of Spirit...

"In my Father's household are many dwelling and staying places: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you" [John 14:2]

As I understand it, GOD brings His children along by stages, out of the darkness into the twilight - out of the twilight into the dawn - out of the dawn into God's fresh morning - and then into the full light of God's fair day.

"A few drops of blood renew the whole world, and become for all men that which rennet is for milk, uniting and drawing us into one". "Christ is like leaven for the entire mass, and having made that which was damned one with himself, frees the whole from damnation".

God bless your heart Lastpost ,

God'  s power   by Holy Spirit  has gifted you with   an ability   to express   words  of the Spirit  in  beautiful harmonious     symmetry

I am always blessed by your posts , as you use the talents    from Our Lord Jesus CHRIST  has   graciously   poured out  of Himself .

I know the Lord desires    for all  the ends of the earth to be gathered onto ONE SPIRIT ,ONE BODY  ,  for He is the LORD OF HARVEST!

Eph 4  Unity in the Body
...4There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all....

Matt 9
Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few:

pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest,

that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.

We are all His,,  He Alone ,  bought and paid for us all  , with  His own Blood / Life is in the blood ,   redeeming us

and turning us from  something useless to something  useful   for His Kingdom and   glory   [His possession ]

I believe the call is NOW   , if   given the ears to hear   and eyes to  see and heart  to understand   what the Spirit is saying and be healed    of our deadly wound

being sin sickness .      As  Living in HIS SPIRIT OF LIFE NOW ..Doing the living  works  that please the Father as ONE  who always  hears and  obeys His Fathers Voice ..

Matt 13

For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'

Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or
be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span."
Exodus 23:25-26

"He gave his command and healed them. He saved them from the grave.
"

Psalm 107:20
"Because of your anger, my whole body is sick. Because of my sin, I'm not healthy."
Psalm 38:3

"He said, "If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.""
Exodus 15:26

"Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health,
even as thy soul prospers ."

3 John 2

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
Isaiah 53:5

"But He said, what is impossible with men is possible with God"
Luke 18:27

"Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."

James 5:14-15

"And these signs shall follow them that believe;
In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents;

and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;

they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Mark 16:17-18

"The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
John 10:10

JESUS LIFE  is an excellent life  ,  a beautiful   pure, Holy Spirit ,    full of love and  sinless  , no need for   anything in the world being offered  , being in it,  but not of it ..

and the world hates Him for this , because the world is  doing  evil  in His sight  ..........

John 7;7 "The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil.

God bless  and His peace  be  in  you and yours .

Saying a little more concerning man's development, which may perhaps not receive a welcome, I believe, as far as the understanding of God is concerned, that man is only given by the Spirit of God only what he is able to receive at that time.

Man is young in terms of spiritual progress; he is only just growing out of baby stages. To man, 2,000 years seems like a long time, yet it is nothing in God's sight. Man has come a long way, yet he has not come that far from his lowest point of comprehension of the Divine which was essentially non-existent - and there is far more growth to come by comparison.

I understand that God teaches man in the same way that man would teach his own children - stage by stage. In the early days when man set up idols and sacrificed to them, man in general - apart from a few who were positioned by God for the purpose of revealing Himself to wayward man - saw even the One God as only just a little more of an idol. Indeed, man even turned back to his other idols, showing how little he understood of the Supreme Being - the One True God. It should be as clear as day to anyone free from the minds of others that this was an infantile stage.

Man must frame his concept of God according to his ability to comprehend Divinity. Man, when attempting to visualize his God, would take the best qualities in a man and add some super-human attributes - a truly anthropomorphic representation of how his God should be according to himself, God made in the image of man: i.e. a god of lesser gods - the god of the gods - there is no other god like the god to whom all other gods are subservient - you are the superior god of all the gods!

The One True God is restricted as to what He can pass on to man concerning Divine Truth. When man has become settled in his small advance in understanding, he yearns for more light - and then it is given. Man asks and receives, and so man moves on, and his God becomes more Divine in Nature and less human-like.

So it is with revelation. Man takes revelation and applies it to everyone and for all time, when in reality it was for a portion of humanity at a certain stage of his spiritual development. What was applicable to man at a certain stage is not suitable for him when he has moved on and requires something finer and purer, something with more explanation as to the groundwork already laid down - not a contradiction but a more spiritual development understanding towards the Divine - for all life must be alive - it is living and not stagnant!

The Spirit - and God is Spirit - is of a very different quality of existence to matter. For man, in his limited physical state, to comprehend God in His entirety, it is impossible. Therefore, God teaches man in parables, it is a necessity. God passes on what is abstract knowledge of Himself and His Heavenly Spirit in parables to man so that man may make a little truth about God his own, by utilising his spiritual faculties given to him by his God for this purpose, as it were.

Yet, just as baby accepts every word its parent tells it as a literal truth, so man takes the spiritual teachings in parabolic form, and he literalizes them, creating theories out of them, developing exact mathematical certainties, and formulating exact falsities from metaphorical imagery of an imaginative people who lived in a far different culture carrying its own brand of limitation and superstition.

Man, having formulated his material truth from the hyperbolic teachings of a different people of a different time with a specific purpose for them, has now sealed his truth, and nothing will interfere with it because it is God's truth, and it was good enough for those of olden sacred times, and so it is good enough for man today - it is truth for all time and his God has no interest in helping him develop his understanding further as he has all he needs of truth.

But to this thought of Christendom in general, I would say that it may have been good enough for Christendom in the past, but it is not good enough for God today. It is certainly no less fascinating nor true to view sacred history with the applied reason of God's intention to work in and on humanity with His Holy Spirit in a progressive manner rather than an all-or-nothing manner revolving around having a single revelation, but indeed it is more beneficent to see God's unfolding of Himself amongst His children as being part of His unimaginable wonder.

Man has envisioned his Almighty God in the heavens in virtually the same manner that he imagines his God should be if He were to come to earth and be worshipped by subdued elected priests continually and without end, while his God sits on a throne, unmoving and unmoved except for the odd display of restrained fiery power, like a deified man, who now feels content that everything is as it should be.

Faith is good, but faith with reason is far better than blind faith. The Holy Spirit can teach man should he be humble enough to seek truth - and the Holy Spirit shall not fail in this - it is only man who fails, and that is but for a time. Man's comprehension of his God will become more Divine, and he will dishonour his God less and less as his understanding becomes purer and more mature towards the God who is the Saviour of all men.

Repenting of selfish thoughts and acts is no less real with the God who is Love; neither are the consequences any less real for violating the law of God which is the law of Love as it is always true that what a man sows he shall reap - whether good or bad.

There is no less an individual assize to account for every action or even omission of loving thought of the child of God, for the higher Self within which the Great Father has generously given out of Himself shall bring to light everything, and then even those who had the greatest skills with earthly words will see that the words of the Master to love ones neighbour as oneself come as a sword with the most precise and sharpest edges imaginable, and while God's generosity is all around and the loving Christ pours His Love out and on to the soul, that soul has the remembrance of every selfish moment of his or her time in the flesh to live with. And pity with a holy pity the one to whom remorse and honest self-assessment and readjustment comes seldom.

There is no genuine reason to adhere to the less Divine and less dignified understanding of yesteryear of God save the comfort of the lesser self, when knowing His loving Nature in a more comprehensive manner brings far greater benefits to Him and His children.

That is generally how I perceive the immediate past and the bright and glorious future of the God who is Love for humanity which is yet to come. And this deals only with this earth as the Spirit side is another aspect altogether and far greater in scope. Man has only begun to fathom the Christ of God in the form of Jesus of Nazareth. There is yet His Glory to unfold, when man has become ready to receive more of it.

And it will happen as God has ordained it.

This is my opinion.

Peace.

  Hi Lastpost ,

After reading your   post ,   and I may be wrong , but   curiosity   has   me wondering,  Are you a professor  in teaching   in school or collage   by trade  ?

I know that is  a silly question   to ask .
But your abilities     to speak  in writing form   amazes me .

I am a simple  ,  child like ,  as simple and common as can be   ,    and curious by nature , But I do respect my elders  in the Spirit and always learn from them   .   Some words I had to look up   to know what they mean  :flowerred:

You made  me think  though   , after reading this part of your post  and   could visualize  as you explained  from a higher  perspective  of progress   of the stages  of mankind  and their relationship with the Father  .

It does makes sense that     little children  play with toys , and make them idols   , to busy themselves with .

Needing something tangible    to focus on .

I recall when very young  praying  so silly ,     not knowing anything at all about God   hardly   because my   family always believed in God , but lacked the skills and  understanding to know any better  .

But little children  at 6 do not know anything  , but  usually   have little bits and pieces   they pick up from others .

But it was,  '' God your so big and so very far far away '' , ''If you can hear  me ''. while laying down for bed at night .

And of course I learned     though Acts   17   from the scriptures     He was never far away at all  ,  from any of us .

I do believe God seals up holy instruction  within us  , between  Himself  and  the spirit in you    that even our own flesh cannot touch it .

I recall    when my sister told me about the salvation of all  , I had a hard time at first    understanding this  , because I saw scriptures that seems to   say the opposite
My, how the wrestling  back and forth went  , I asked   Him please help me understand  , I cannot  do this on my own .

The only thing I knew for sure was    and repeated it over and over in , a babe like praise   , for some years ,

Was,    I don't know how  Jesus Christ will save everyone, I just know that He will do a perfect work

Because HE IS GOD   ........... .  I got to see GOD   so much Bigger and  in perfect control in my minds eye  at last .

I asked many , many questions  , what does this mean Lord ?
Specific  questions on the Word  and He always gave an answer , not the instant I asked  , But always though the ''light bulb ''  moments, I like to call  them .

It helped   to discover   in  1  John 2    being   the 3 stages

of    the little children and the young men and fathers   and how they    progressed  , they grew in   strength   by His truth and grace ...

...12I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake.

13I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.

14I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning.

I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

I am a poor writer and  have always  struggled to be clear and  always ask for   Gods  help in that   area.

I wonder if the lesser self is the evil one ?

Because God is fair and everyone is born  with it  in them  , and the need to be  born again of the Holy Spirit   to have a real and genuine relationship with God Our Father

I say this because Jesus said once , You being evil know how to give good gifts to your children  , How much more will the Heavenly Father give   the Holy Spirit to those whom ask Him ....

I do know that LOVE WILL BE THE ANSWER to everything and has always been , not  so much the   knowledge   that we seek so much now , but Love being  so very powerful ,  that really no words are needed   to understand  it .    I believe the knowing  will come instantly , like you already knew ,but was not  always certain .

Jesus is the reward  !!

I believe your perception is one hundred percent correct in your reading of it.

This question of what happens when you die gets debated ad nauseum on here- and since you are new, you will gradully see there are very different opinions on this, but I will say this....

Regardless what translation you use there is a reasonable interpretation of the verses that allows for your understanding of it, and I agree with it myself.

I am involved in a big job this week and havent had much time for the boards, so I hope we will not have to do the whole "sleep of the dead or whatever" debate in this thread :o)

  Hi Lastpost ,

rosered, thank you for your reply but as for my job, I am but a simple labourer and have been pushing a large handcart around the hospital since 1989 collecting clinical waste and domestic refuse and throwing it onto the back of a lorry for incineration.

Speaking of myself publicly is not something I am comfortable with but Divine Love gives so that it can be given away again. I am nothing, honestly nothing but a sinner, I am ordinary, so anyone can surely have this. The Spirit is from where my education of Christ comes, because I asked and prayed for the truth about everything I had been through - and later on [after] it has been revealing to find it all in the sacred records which man calls the Bible [though I find people cannot believe it can happen this way around so I say nothing because it throws up barriers]. The Spirit has formed who I am today without a doubt [and is the reason why I am writing this], and I cling to the Christ-Spirit daily and nightly as Christ is the Jewel of great price and the only Jewel worth having - Christ is the richness of life, the very centre of life - the light of each man that comes into the world.

It seems clear to me that the things of the Spirit cannot be adequately expressed in the language of the earth, therefore analogy and illustration is used ["To what shall it be likened..."]. Explaining a life where conditions are far beyond the experience of man with his acquaintance only with his own material conditions, will always fall short of Reality of the Spirit.

Peace to you

Amen  !!     You are a brother in the Lord Jesus Christ       for me as to being Gathered into the HOLY SPIRIT  OF ONE TRUE  GOD    !

I did not mean to make you uncomfortable  ...  and thank you for sharing   what you  have .

But His gifts to men  are    are seen among the    saints of God the  holy ones   in His own Spirit   of increase    ,    dwelling in vessels of clay upon the earth  .

Col   1 26  that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints,

27to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

2  8We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ....

in Jesus    holy peace

Dear rosered, you did not make me uncomfortable, do not worry. I was rather thinking that if I was to explain about myself it would cause barriers in many minds because I know from experience what happens.

The Saviour's love is so deep it can lay a man on the ground when His Image arises within, so deep, deep, deep, strong, strong, strong is His love. He is the only One, love and suffering mingled, scourged Purity, belittled Holiness, pierced Divinity - the Prince of Glory lives for ever, ever, ever in our hearts and minds, in our very inner being. We want to serve Him in His Way.

Thank you so much   Last post ,

I hope   you know ...  I know you by the Spirit  of Christ  , and so let your light shine  :dsunny:

...15nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

John 1 3All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

4In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

5The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

May we all learn to know     the Light of Life in all men being Jesus Christ ...
