So I wrote this poem at an incredibly dark time in my life. I'm thankful to God that I am no longer there. I thought it would be good to share though, as it illuminates some of the conditions many find themselves in within the religion of Christianity. It's called "Flames."


You condemn me,
saying I never had a chance
while you stand, high and dry,
not giving the drowned a glance.

You, you favored one
Cured of soulish infirmities
Stare me in the eye in disgust,
I who reel in urgent need

Answers, answers,
Blank stares at my cancer,
I don't want your answers.
They just scratch my itching ears

You cannot be blind
To my stains,
Giving no mind
To my chains;

'Cause you wash your hands of me
And I feel it's right
In your assessing
You reveal your own life

Wretched, wretched,
Injured while trekking
This cold, cold planet.
Yet you speak of Heaven.

So speak of Heaven to me
Speak softly as my breaths cease
While Hell, all-round, I see
Through the burning desire in me

Just before I came on to the forum I was sitting here thinking about some of the broken people I've known in the past and some we laughed at, thought it was funny. I'm sooo sorry about that now. When I was a little older one I didn't laugh about was an old woman I saw dumped off at a local airlines to go back to her village, lying on the door step drunk. My thought was she is someone's mother and she even reminded me of my mother, the way she looked, but my mom was a godly woman. Now I'm so thankful that the Father sent His son to be the savior of the whole world and these hurting people will not be hurting forever.

Thank you eaglesway, I have benefitted much from your writings and the writings of others like Seth. In fact, in that dark time I would often turn to this forum and receive some encouragement from the post made here, many of those I saw were yours.

It was my pleasure Sheila. I haven't shared often on this forum though I signed up in August of last year. I figured it'd be cool to share some of my heart with this forum community. Deep really does call out to deep. I have been able to find and learn many spirit nourishing authors through this website such as Victor Hugo and Hannah Withal Smith. If you don't know of them you should look them both up. They had some lovely things to say :).

My heart definitely feels what you are saying bushy. I remember being a religious zealot and burdening souls with my legalism, and judging them when they didn't live up. I did that because I really didn't like myself. Now I'm learning, terribly slowly I might add, to love and embrace people as our Father has done to me. My sister shared a quote from Victor Hugo with me and it said, "To love someone is to see the face of God." Such a beautiful saying, with a great meaning. That's kinda like what you experienced.

Hi Eaglesway,

Do you have any music with these poems? I liked them all but I really liked the one titled "Someday".  Is this a song with music or just a poem?

Someday has music that I wrote sometime after the poem, but I have never recorded it. I will have to put that on my list :o) It is the only one out of those that has music to it. I have a lot of songs as well, but they are mostly folksongs with a few gospel songs at www.iacmusic.com/johnmyles
