Cranny I feel for you brother. It's truly torment worrying about all of these things. Don't let the accuser torment you. Christ died for all sin. So now, what we have to worry about is the consequences of our actions. I don't see long hair as having too many negative consequences. (Unless you take care of infants and forget to tie your hair back... I've had some big chunks hauled outta my head!!)

What did it mean when Paul said it was a shame to have long hair?  Does God consider it feminine for men, and wrong?  Seems hypocritical, cause some men in the Bible had long hair.

Of course, there are those bible thumpers who say long hair is a Satanic trick to blend male and female.  However, they also are racist, and say inter-racial marriage is a trick to destroy black, yellow, and brown.  I don't buy into that, anymore than the "Hell" thing.

Actually, I think "long" may have meant really long, and perhaps effeminately worn. We kno the Nazarites wore their hair long, and certain sects still do. :2c:

I find understanding the long hair thing just as troubling as Paul teaching women should be silent in the church. But that is just me. I try to keep in mind, my opinion of course, that Paul was just as much human as we and well that means he was still carnal. No offence or sacrilege intended. :HeartThrob:

`Yea, I dont think Paul was making a law about hair length  anyway. He was speaking about no longer needing to wear a head covering. Remember, women didnt cut their hair at all then. We have a tendency to look at these things through contemporary eyes. I am an old hippie and wore my hair down my neck for years, but I still always thought a guy with full glorious locks waay down his back looked weird :o), but thats just me.

What does the Bible say about hair length Well, many people in the Bible had different hair lengths. Hair length itself doesnt matter in terms of salvation, because we are saved by faith alone in Jesus Christ And thus everyone will believe in Christ and be saved, regardless of how long their hair is.

1 Samuel 16:7 The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
Our outward appearance would be like hair length, which some people may look at and judge others for. But Jesus did not come to judge, but to save.

Now, my name is Harold Samson, or Harold Samsong or HSong as shortened. I am a male. And you may notice that my name has the name Samson in it. Samson was a male in the Bible who had long hair and that was the source of his strength when praising the Lord.

For some people, it is their personal choice to honor the Lord by letting the locks of their head grow long. For other people, they honor God by letting their hair length be short. In both cases, the important thing is not the outward appearance, but rather the inward appearance of our hearts. That is, we are doing these things out of the love of God.

Those who took a Nazarite vow would have long hair, because they took that vow, not out of any salvation requirement. Having long hair or short hair is not needed to be saved, only faith alone in Jesus Christ.

There are many things in the Bible which are mentioned as practices of a specific culture, such as incense.
MALACHI 1:11 In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to my name.
Its not incense and pure offerings that save us. These incense and pure offerings are metaphors for believing Christ with faith alone to be saved. And thus all people will bring these offerings, offerings of love, in the name of Jesus Christ showing that they are all saved.

In terms of Pauls writings, its important to understand cultural contexts. If someone uses their hair length to praise evil, then that is evil. But if someone uses their hair length to praise good, that is good. Thats what he refers to. We must be kind and gentle when spreading the Gospel.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

In some cultures, the majority of men have short hair, in other cultures, the majority of men have longer hair. With circumcision or non circumcision, it doesnt add anything to salvation. Salvation is always faith alone. But those who are circumcised, like the Jews, will have an easier time convincing others who are circumcised, other Jews, to believe in Jesus Christ with faith alone and be saved. So a lot of it is just tips on how to be relatable to your culture.

For instance, if Im in a foreign country, but Im not dressed like the people of that foreign country, those people will have a harder time taking the Gospel message Im telling them seriously, because I look like a foreigner. But if I follow their customs, then they might take me more seriously because I look like one of them. Thats purely on a cultural basis when converting people. Luckily, online, people wont judge you for your looks. (Maybe theyll judge you by your profile picture instead LOL!)

In typing, there are social rules to follow. Starting a sentence with a capital letter and ending with a period. Following these social rules when explaining to someone to believe in Jesus Christ with faith alone helps them understand what Im saying better. But if I start making a lot of grammar mistakes, poor punctuation, then it might be harder for them to understand what Im saying.


So what Im saying is this. Let us stand against legalistic fundamentalism, for the law of Christ, we love our neighbors as we love ourselves, that is the fulfilment of the law, because we have been saved because we have believed in Jesus with faith alone.
