I have thought about the symbolism of the incident related in the synoptic gospels regarding the woman with the flow of blood and the little girl who was raised, and at this point I am thinking that the older woman is the natural Jewish nation, and the little girl is the church. The reasoning is as follows:

1 - The woman's flow of blood has been twelve years and the little girl is twelve years old, so the woman's trouble started when the little girl was born, which would make sense with the Jew/Church situation.

2 - Not only this, but twelve is a highly symbolic number for the people of God, which both the woman and the girl are associated with.

3 - 'flow of blood' could refer to all of the ongoing persecutions of the Jewish people in the church age.

4 - The woman comes to faith when Jesus has already "passed by", hence having to take the back of his garment in her hands.

5 - The little girl is declared to not be dead but asleep - could refer to the church still being immature and having the appearance of death as a result.

6 - Jesus commands the girl be given something to eat immediately upon her waking up - the church has the appearance of death because it has not been feeding on Christ?

Besides all this, I take Peter, James and John to be symbolic of the remnant, and they are the only one's present from the disciples. Putting all of this together, it would refer to a situation where the church is woken up out of spiritual slumber right after the Jews have taken hold of Christ in faith.

These are all just musings on this passage, and I was wondering if anyone else has ever considered this in the symbolic sense, and has any thoughts?

Thank you rosered, and that is great insight with regards to the lamb. The fact that the writer goes out of his way to specifically quote the Aramaic there would make sense.

It is wonderful how spiritual symbolism is woven so deeply into all of the actual events of the gospel!

I am not sure whether the Jews or mankind at large will ever profess Jesus Christ as Lord in the way the church does. Maybe we can come to an agreement about God as love and peace, but specifically Jesus seems far away from many. After death things are different, I mean this life here. We will have to wait until Jesus comes back somehow and reinvigorates our human society with more spirit. This world needs fresh things from God., especially fresh peace and love and kindness, not the old things.
