It's a shame that I was always taught to read this verse, and stop. I was never told the rest...of the story...

Similar thought from the CLV of Rom 3

25 (Whom God purposed for a Propitiatory shelter, through faith in His blood, for a display of His righteousness because of the passing over of the penalties of sins which occurred before in the forbearance of God),

Grace is all important in knowing God's work and although it is a free gift it is not without our correction as we grow in His Love.

Check that out!  God was not obligated, and in the person of Jesus, He paid a considerable price.  What God did for us was not necessary, it was free, there was no obligation on His part, but praise Him that He did!
