"For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." — Matthew 5:18-19

Is heaven and earth a metaphor or a figure of speech?  Have heaven and earth passed away?

Does anyone have a good teaching on this that I can use?  Thanks.

"It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17)

Same here.  Have heaven and earth passed away?

Thanks.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17)

Again.......heaven and earth?  Thanks.

"Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law." (John7:19)

This one does not need explaining.

Thanks

you are quoting from the gospels and Yahshua teachings and judgements mentioned there all related to jewish people and nation only.

Yahshua said he was only sent unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Yahshua commanded his disciples to go only to the jewish people and NOT to gentiles.

So in this relation it related only to the jewish people and nation.
The jewish world and economy(heaven and earth)was about to pass away in that time--their very way of life and practices was at an end--and it came to an end at ad 70 when over 1 million jewish people were killed and the city and temple destroyed--just as Yahshua pronounced to them in the gospels for their rejecting him.
But until ad 70--everything continued the same--the jewish people and nation still offered animal sacrifices and the such---that ended at ad 70 and beyond.

This is from my perspective--im not only a UR but also a Preterist(end time teachings).

The language of scripture, as I read it, makes it clear that neither heaven or earth have passed away. Since, "By faith we know the worlds were created by the word of God"- it is clear that the heavens and the earth would pass away before the word of God that spoke them into existence- but I personally believe the heavens and earth will never pass away, but will be set free from futility, becoming the new(renewed) heaven and earth- heaven filling earth and the whole cosmos as well.

Meaning I see it as a figure of speech/descriptive metaphor :o)

:cloud9: I see it spiritually. This heaven {carnal mind} and this earth {physical body} must "pass away" to make room for the new heaven (mind of Christ) and the new earth (glorified body). There is a external view and there is an internal view, to all of it. We are to take the Word and make it PERSONAL.

I don't believe we are to watch what is going on in the world "out there" with fear and trepidation, but rather to be pressing in on the Armageddon going on IN US, as He removes all things that offend and do iniquity in His Kingdom, the kingdom that is WITHIN US.

Our bodies were formed from the very things the earthly world is composed of, so we too, are part of the "world" He is talking about. When the end of the world comes, it's the end of OUR world dominion, as Christ has become Lord of all. The word for ankle in Hebrew runs into a meaning of "end of the world".

Thinking of it this way, our ankle is literally the end of our "world". Thus when you read Matt. 13 parable of the wheat and the tares with the understanding that we are the world there, the field that the good seed was planted in, and the removal of the tares by the angels (messages or messengers) is called the end of the world. Removing the tares (deliverance) IS the end of our "world", as He increases as we decrease. My  :2c:.....Blessings....

Thanks for the help.

I've been praying the Lord's prayer lately.

I'm struck by the similarities of it to heaven and earth.

"They kingdom come" God's kingdom in Jesus Christ is come to earth in the believer.
"They will be done"  God's will in Jesus Christ is done through the believer manifesting the love of God in the world
"On earth as it is in heaven"  Jesus is king in heaven and king in earth in the believer.

I think "heaven and earth" is a signifier of national identity: the authorities and the people. The higher-ups and the lower-downs. Heaven and earth. That is why, I believe, so many times in scripture all the prophecies addressed to Israel contain phrases like (paraphrasing) "hear me, earth" or "listen to me, heavens." This is why I believe that "New Jerusalem" is linked to "new heaven and new earth"

Whether it has passed away, I believe it has in reference to the old system of Law, the old theocracy of Israel as it was with the Law. Literally, nobody can follow the Law as it is written since 70AD. They only follow certain parts they are able to. So, in that sense, heaven and earth has passed away.
