Yet is still remains in the psyche of most christians...including some who frequent here. This paper clears up all the uncertainty. You should take the time to read it Micah.

It's amazing to me that people use Abraham tithing to Milchizadek because they seem to forget that we're supposed to be in christ in therefore in unity with the high priest. High priest cannot tithe to himself for crying out loud. Yes tithing is not only obsolete I actually believe it other than hell is one of the most dangerous and damaging doctrines out there. I have not read the paper yet but I will when I get a chance thanks for posting it.

My Church is a small church of around 120 members. It is a nice Church. The church tithes, but does not ask the members too. Rather, members donate money for the up keep of the church and ground, various salaries, insurance and utilities. My Church teaches that tithing can be in many forms and it does NOT have to be paid to the church. Any help like donating time, goods or services to anyone in need is giving of yourself and is regarded as a tithe.


On the flip side, I have heard many wonderful stories of great things happening to those who make a habit of tithing 10% or more MONEY, personally I have never been able to afford to. Perhaps because I don't. But it has always seemed me like a cheap commercial where if you give me this much, you will get twice as much back.


While I CERTAINLY can see this helping neighbors and strangers in any way one can always is rewarding; writing a fair sized check each week to a church does not or has not offered the same reward.

It sounds like your church has got it pretty right. We are supposed to give as we are able. Surely the people can take responsibility for their own giving to their church and it's members and use their own good judgement. We are learning our Fathers business and that includes to give according to his will...not someone else's restricted rules.

I find the stories that people tell about tithing miracles are nearly always about someone else, somewhere else and highly generalized.
It is a commercial flim-flam job to get everyone to drink the kool-aid.

I like the historical context in this paper.
