I adamantly refused to acknowledge or to believe that God still uses dreams, visions, deliverances, etc., before May 1979.

but I will begin this thread by sharing my experience of being slain in the spirit in the fall of 1979.  I had joined a Word of Faith church where on a weekly basis I saw people going to the front of the church for prayers; falling; getting up and wildly waving their hands and loudly exclaiming Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord.

I've always been and still am a no-nonsense female; and all that hoop dee doo was such a turn off.  Besides I truly believed that the people were being "helped" to fall by the men that stood by... but I was careful to not reveal my true feelings (poker face par excellence) as I really appreciated the pastor's Bible Studies which included a beginners' class in Greek.

A few Sundays later, I needed prayer and decided to go to the front...but on the way I kept pleading "Lord, Lord, please, please don't let anyone push me."  Well the whole church (100+ people) saw me "slain in the spirit".  I know absolutely that no one pushed me.  I was so angry with God.  A real blow to my ego having the whole church see me.

A few weeks later at an interdenominational charismatic prayer meeting, there was much loud praying in tongues, some more hoop dee doo and I developed great mental nausea.   But decided that if tongues were for real, that the Spirit must instill in me a prayer language.  Sat at my kitchen table and told God that I'm not moving until I get a prayer language.  About 45 minutes into my pleading I heard myself saying a bunch of what sounded like gibberish...  I was never able to share that "gibberish" in public; however on several occasions when I started praying for a healing of some minor pain, I heard myself repeating the exact same gibberish and I was healed.  It seems to me that both being slain in the spirit and receiving a prayer language were intended only for me to learn more about the ways of God...

Also, it seems to me that God was beginning to lay major ground rules for me     Do not make a doctrine; do not give a teaching; nor write a book; nor start a "church" or any group based on tongues or being slain in the spirit.

Next time:  Deliverance, dreams, visions

The only time I was ever "pushed" was during an altar call at an SDA church.  I didn't go up, being as yet, unbaptized, but I did feel a palpable push against my right side, urging me toward the aisle.  I cannot explain it except as the push of an angel.
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

Thank you so much for complying to that.  I just know we need another one of any of those.  Did anyone else's irony meter go off just then?  I'll check, it might be the furnace kicking in.

It's not easy getting anything questionable past VineBranch.  VB is salt, and sharpens as iron.

What?!? Don't remove it anna! You aren't making a "teaching" or "book" out of it! You're just sharing your experiences! I was so blessed by it.

As long as we are as salt bringing out the good flavours rather than as salt being rubbed in a wound.
