Can someone explain this to me? "Whatever you bind/loose on earth will be bound/loosed in heaven".

WhiteWings

1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Deena

Thanks WW. So this verse is to Peter and not relevant to us personally? It has nothing to do with binding and loosing spirits as it is believed in pentecostal circles?

First of all my opionion is just one out of  a million....

It was certainly for Peter. But ONLY for Peter??? I think the answer is yes, but I won't be suprised if someone posts a deeper/extra interpretation...

Seat of Moses

Personally I think any teaching that can't be found in the OT is doubtful at best.
Each synagoge had a "Seat of Moses". It was a place of authority from which Rabbi's preached and made decisions.
For example God commanded not to work on Sabbath; but didn't define 'work'.
So people came to Moses and asked: Is this, this and this work?
God gave Moses the authority to loose/allow or bind/forbid certain things.
Later other persons got that same authority.

Imo, God gave Peter the same authority as He gave Moses. Interpretations of the Law.

So  lets assume God hates woolen garments in church.  He even sees it as a sin.
But Peter taught wool is fine. In that case God will view wearing wool not as a sin.

That's my understanding.
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

Hey WW, I haven't noticed before, but have you or someone else coined a new word "thaught" a combination of "thought" and "taught"?

Back to the ot... I was meditating on binding and loosing and this thread the other day when Adam naming the animals came to mind. God brought each animal to him and whatever adam called them that was there name (/nature?).

WhiteWings

Adam was binding the names.
God did not reject those names.

God had already given them some nature because it says from all the beasts and birds he brought them to be named
