Currently reading Love Wins by Rob Bell. If, as he asserts, heaven will be on earth...and everyone ...or almost everyone..will be "saved'...isn't there going to be a serious problem with overcrowding? The planet is overpopulated as it is. I can't imagine every soul who ever lived co-existing on this planet in the future. That's why it's easier for me to think of heaven as somewhere else. am I missing something?

Molly

How do you know the planet is overcrowded?  Because somebody told you that?

Have you ever flown over this country and looked out the window?  It's breath taking but I don't see any evidence of overcrowding.  I see miles and miles and miles of uninhabited land.

Have you flown over Africa and done the same?

Don't believe most of what you read in newspapers and don't believe anything you hear on tv. :laughing7:

The sense of "overcrowding" now likely has to do with limited resources (or at least the perception of).  When God is All in All, of course all needs will be met, as His righteousness covers the earth.
The oldest known manuscripts agree with each other 99% of the time.  The scriptures, accurately translated, Spirit revealed - reliable.   Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Heb. 12:2

Satan manufactures scarcity.  He has more money and power that way.

Our Lord said it's at hand, there's no farther to look.

It's about averages Molly. Take your plane and fly over NY and other major cities. For me not overcrowded means everybody has a big home with a large garden. Plus miles and miles of land for recreation.
A long river all for myself so I can go rafting without meeting anybody. That would be heaven for me.
Cabin in the forest. Hunting for food. Dirt bike as transport. No people. Just plants animals and idyllic ponds

John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Interesting responses, but not what I was expecting. In fact, the responses seem almost defensive. I'm disappointed.

I agree.

You could have that here.  Everyone in New York could have that, too.  In fact, many of them do--second houses.

But, don't ask me why anyone would live in NYC for one day.  I don't get it.   Some people like pavement and concrete.

PS do you know of a guy named, Stid Sæterbakken?  I'm trying to find out how he died.

I"m not defensive, I'm angry about all the lies that are told to us daily.

Crowded earth, kill your babies is just another one in the long list, but one of their favorites, because they hate people.

It's with great sadness that we announce that Stig Saeterbakken took his life last night, January 24. He was a good friend to the Press and to staff. He will be very much missed. Read more here (Norwegian); at his Wikipedia page, here; and, at transcript, an essay on Saeterbakken's work.

It's estimated that in total 106 billion people ever lived. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_population
It's very simple. Current earth can't feed so many people. It would be on average 15x more crowded.
But the new earth will be back to paradise state I think. So what's now wasteland will be good to live then. Some people point to the Revelation verse stating there won't be any seas. I see it as a good possibility the verse is misunderstood. I once read an answer to a question very similar to yours. All those 106 billion people fit in one State. But the have to sleep standing :-)
Another important question is food? No need to eat? Food just appears out of thin air when needed? Adam and Eve did some farming. (tend to the garden). People often point to huge cities like NYC as prove many people can live on earth. What they forget is the food the New Yorkers eat doesn't grow in tin cans on the shelves of the supermarkets....
So there are a lot of unknow variables.
If nothing changes compared to now my answer is: impossible.
If all oceans become very fertile land (no more sea) and earth has perfect climate then 106 billion people is possible I think. But it means whole earth is a big farmland. What about waste production?

So totally impossible unless things change so much the new earth looks nothing like the current one.

Yes, I know it's being called suicide.  I was just looking for any other details.  It surprises me.  He seemed to be at the top of his game, and he seemed to be a man of integrity and a fighter.  I was wondering if there was any indication of foul play or some reasonable explanation as to why he would take such a desperate action himself.  It just doesn't sit right with me.  It's very sad.

Re: food, etc We will have new bodies that function differently from the ones we have now, so I don't perceive any problems since we won't be designing an abode for human bodies but for spiritual ones.  Also, I think many will take advantage of frequent and lengthy trips to other parts of the universe for pleasure, exploration,  or settlement.

Also, the earth is getting bigger.

Norway announced on Wednesday, January 24, 2012 the death at 46 of their leading author and champion of Free Speech, Stig Sæterbakken. Artistic director of the Norwegian Festival of Literature since 2006, he resigned in October 2008 over the controversies following his invitation to David Irving to be keynote speaker in 2009. Mr Irving's visit to Oslo was accompanied by riots. See our Radical's Diary: May 26 | May 29 | Jun 2 , 2009. Upset by the ongoing controversy, we are now told, Sæterbakken has taken his own life leaving two young daughters

He was bucking the tide, a dangerous place to be.  But, it takes a brave person to do that.   I just don't get it--suicide, that is.   well, thanks, ww. :sigh:

How is it that people believe we will all live on earth?  I would question many peoples interpretation of Revelations.  When we try to predict future events with the book of Revelation I believe we truly miss the mark.

Maybe not all, but certainly many.

That's what the restoration is all about--the peaceable kingdom.

4But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

5And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

7And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

I was thinking the same thing. What about all of the planets and stars? Could be that they will be inhabited?

Every night when the stars are out I look out my window and see this one star and wondered how it would be to live on one. Maybe we will have our own little star or planet and create things as we want them to be? Wouldn't that be nice? Our own little world so to speak. I would like a cabin beside a lake or river myself.

Thank you, White Wings, very honest answer. Sometimes I think I am being scolded here for asking questions, but I think that's how we get closer to the truth. I don't believe there are any wrong questions. Wrong answers, definately. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question kindly and thoughtfully.

(Some) people here have strong opinions and write down those opinions in eqally strong words. That doesn't make the answer more or less true. But some extra info instead of a quick oneliner can be very helpful at times. Maybe it's also that many here know eachother for quite a while and use some sort of shorthand because "everyone" knows their main line of thought.
I guess that can be confusing for those who are new at this forum. Especially when people start to use ET, UR, ED, BoL etc. I've never seen those terms outside this forum.
