Jesus' death?

    I heard a teaching recently that said Jesus was nailed to a tree and not a cross.  Then what was it that the soldiers forced Jesus to carry on his back to Golgotha? And scripture says Jesus stumbled and a man helped and carried it for Jesus?

Simon the Cryene

Simon is a common name, from Hebrew meaning "He who has heard/hears [the word of God]".

Cyrene was an ancient Greek colony in present-day Libya, the oldest and most important of the five Greek cities in the region.
The city was named after a spring, Kyre, which the Greeks consecrated to Apollo.

Christ may have carried a piece of it.  The -- part of the T.

But I am not for certain.  He might have carried a torn down tree that wasn't yet hewn into a nice, smooth piece of lumber.  It had to be a long piece of wood, and what better than a rough cut tree?

He was being executed as a rebel of Rome.  Rome wouldn't have wasted effort or time in making the beautiful and intricate carved crosses we see in our churches and on our necklaces - though, artistically beautiful and relevant they are (I am not against poeticism, and artistry).  Just saying, they were killing a man, and probably did it "cheap and efficiently".  Chop down a good sized tree, hew some branches off of it, and nail a bit of cross-beam on it, and have him carry it.

Just consider how todays forensices say that the arms were above the head. Besides that whether is was a straight up stake or a cross membered weapon, Our Saviour was put to death in the most dishonorable and painful ways. Thank you Jesus!

IMO Jesus didn't carry a cross. He only carried the upper cross piece. A board plank. A patibulum
Jesus and the thiefs (could be holy men according to some translations) were not just nailed to a tree. They were on the same tree.

Deut 21;2223  " But when there shall be in any man a sin worthy of death and he is to be put to death, and you shall hang him on a tree, his dead body shall not remain all night upon the tree but you shall bury him on the same day for he that is hanged is a reproach unto God"

Christ would have been carrying the beam that would nail him to the tree.
He was charged with the blasphemy which was a capitol offence worthy of death. So to COMPLETELY fulfiill the law He would have been nailed to the tree.
That also explains why they took Him down before night to put Him in the tomb.

The Jews charged Him with blasphemy but the Romans convicted Him because He claimed to be the King of the Jews. That was a direct challange to Ceasar who was king of the Jews (and teh rest of the empire)

Would this plank be lodged on his back and tying his arms back, in behind the plank, so that the plank rests on, his forearm, bicep area.

Planks of wood are quite heavy and is difficult to walk, without using your arms, in motion, coupled with the beating he had the previous night and had to travel uphill, it is enough to test even an Iron man contestant.
