What happens when death says hey?

There is much teaching in the christian world(yes I place the "c" in christian as a small letter) that when we die/expire/quit breathing that the individual who has died, will go to heaven or to hell.
Now I for one question that teaching. Where in the Bible does it read that when we die/expire/quit breathing, that we go to heaven or to hell ? I will agree that when we/I/anyone dies/expires/quits breathing will go to "hell." HELL= which is the grave or pit, it is a place where the dust(which man is made of) goes to return. (Eccl. 12:7)
Hell as Strongs reads H7585  she'ôl  she'ôl hades or the world of the dead,  including its accessories and inmates: - grave, hell, pit. 
When one tackles the word hell in the NT we come up with either "gehenna " a place that judges as we die, still the grave or pit and "hades" the place of the unseen or the grave.
Where does the Bible teach that when a person dies/expires/quits breathing goes to heaven?
Should we see that(not going to heaven) as some kind of fear and loss when one dies/expires/quits breathing? WHY is that we fear? What is the fear? What is or what do you expect when death comes to your door? I for one will rejoice. This is my hope.

I expect to shed this body of dust, continue in the Eternal Life which I already have (and which Jesus will not let me slip from his fingers out of, being The Life, and The Resurrection; I am in Christ "now" as well as "then") and then when God sees fit to resurrect the sleeping bodies of dust and glorify them, receive it again with the New Creation to come.

As a part of Christ's body, which is the church, I don't see Hades prevailing against me, even temporarily.  My only "fear" with soul-sleep aside from the implication that I am "nothing but a body" (which is very gross to me for a lot of reasons) is that it means that even for a second (or what would actually amount to decades, or even centuries) I could be "outside of Christ", or "slipped from his hands" - by Death no less, which Christ himself promised would not prevail against us, and promised that wouldn't we 'die' having Eternal Life.  I take this to mean that I will live in the true sense of the word, continually in a living, experiential connection with God and existence even without my body.  My body being a gift, as well as my existence.  My life is Christ-dependent, not body-dependent, or material-dependent.

Being in Heaven, albeit disembodied is a much brighter, and more beautiful hope than soul-sleep, in my studied opinion.  Hence, like my acceptance of UR over ET - I look to the brighter and larger hope.

As for verses that say we'll go to Heaven, well there are the typical ones; "spirit returns to God who gave it", and the ones I alluded to in my statement above.  I am too tired now to make a theological argument or give an exhaustive list of verses.  But on the promises concerning Life that Jesus gave, I base my belief that I'll not effectively "cease to exist" (Death) but will go on and take my place where I am "already seated and hidden" in Heaven, in Life.  The Resurrection for me, is the final fulfillment of that promise.  In much the same way that Christ's death and resurrection on the cross is Salvation in and of itself, but his Coming-Back is the final fulfillment of Salvation's promise.

Be asured my friend and brother you will not cease to exist. I will say you are in Christ, be that staunch or faulting at times, or a rebel to what you believe abiding and doing the things you try not to do. Just know the Holy spirit is doing a work, and you are a work looking to be completed in HIs time. Death is but a door we await, death will come, trust in Him..know that He is the One who opens the door for you to enter. I am not saying  that death is a freind, but I do not believe we need to fear death,if our eye is upon Him who IS LIFE.

I'm one who believes I will go to heaven when I die.  I've already listed verses on other threads for why I believe this.  I don't expect to 'sleep."  I have already been out of my body twice, and so I have an idea of what it is like.  I know I do not need a physical body to live.  I have what I'll call 'a body of light.'  I also expect to be in the presence of those who preceded me, angels, other friends, and, of course, Jesus.


And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to be with me, so that you may be where I am.

What I believe about death:

I believe SPIRITUALLY we are sitting in Christ in the heavenlies.  SPIRITUALLY we will be there after we die and forever more but pinch yourself and you will know that you are still in the flesh and are physically still here on earth. 

(Luke 23:46) When Jesus died he said "into they hands I commend my Spirit". 
What was the Spirit of Jesus? If Jesus Spirit was commended to the Father hands wouldn't Jesus have already ascended to the Father?

(John 20:17) Jesus said, "touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father".
What these two verses tell me is, when we die our breath returns to God but not our spiritual souls/bodies.  Our spirit/breath lies dormant until it is returned to our bodies and then our bodies will be changed into immortality.

I don't think when we die a part of us that is active, knowledgeable, aware of our surroundings goes on up to heaven somewhere. I believe when you die, you are dead until the resurrection. You are not conscious of anything, or anybody until Christ returns and replaces that spirit/breath back into us. In the Bible death is referred to as sleep. When we sleep we don't know anything and time is not relevant

Paul said " For I am in a straight betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and be with Christ; which is far better".  Paul knew that death was temporary and would only seem like a twinkling of the eye.

 I seem to go back and forth on this topic. Both intellectually and spiritually. I am begining to perceive that perhaps both accounts are true.

Some Christians, go to sleep and await the resurection.

While others go straight to heaven e.g Paul, Elijah, Stephen.

Some unbelievers sleep in the dust, e.g a little child, such as that girl who Jesus rose from the dead. She sleepeth.

But other unbelievers, wander in darkness, either their own dark imagination, which I have gathered info from NDE. Or they wander about in darkness, which comes mainly from the book of Job and various scriptures, such as rev 20 where people are pulled out of hell and the sea. Since there are 2 compartments, then perhaps both of my theories are true. That some people wander around in their own darkness (hell) While others are in place where evil resides ( The sea) Leviathian and the dragon are in the sea. Tyrus is a city located in the sea(place of evil), which is an extremely rich city filled with costly jewels and has an impressive amount of merchants. Tyrus a heavenly city in the sea, perhaps this is where NDERS go, when they see a vision of Budda, Mohamed, Alien, etc posing as God etc. The spirit of antichrist who denieth Jesus as the Son of God.

I believe the likeness of God in me is the identity "of" me and "that" part of me is what exists beyond the boundaries of this realm and yet is conformed within the limitations of this life until breath ceases to flow.  I believe heaven is merely what the other side "is".  I believe this body of flesh goes to the grave, I believe the spirit "in" this body is released back to where it was sent from.  I beleive when all things are complete in the will of the Father, there is a reuniting between bodies and spirits at which point, everything will be restored fully back to it's original order.  And my soul will manifest once again through eternal eyes in an eternal body, until that time, I continue to press on in pursuing him in all things . . . except for when American Idol is on . . .and Dancing With the Stars . . .And Raising Hope . . .and  . . .well . . .you get the picture.
