My mother has been really struggling with serious depression and believes she has fallen too far, has lost her faith and has disappointed God.  I would greatly appreciate as many verses as you all can come up with for her.  Thanks.

Molly

Psalm 121
1I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Molly

This is my all time favorite psalm.  Maybe you could encourage her to just say it every day.

Psalm 23
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Shawn,

The NOOMA video you posted has a great verse in it.

Psa 51:1 A Davidic Psalm When Nathan the prophet came to him after he had come to Bath-sheba. Be gracious to me, O Elohim, according to Your benignity; According to Your many compassions wipe out my transgressions."
Psa 51:2 Rinse me abundantly from my depravity, And from my sin cleanse me."
Psa 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is in front of me continually."
Psa 51:4 Against You, against You alone have I sinned And done what is evil in Your eyes, So that You may be justified when You speak, And be cleared when You judge."
Psa 51:5 Behold, I was with depravity when I was travailed in birth, And in sin when my mother conceived me."
Psa 51:6 Behold, You delight in truth even in the hidden parts, And in the secret parts You cause me to know wisdom."
Psa 51:7 Expiate me with the hyssop, and I shall be clean; Rinse me, and I shall be whiter than snow."
Psa 51:8 Let me hear elation and rejoicing; Let the bones You have crushed exult.
Psa 51:9 Conceal Your face from my sins, And all my depravities wipe out."
Psa 51:10 Create for me a clean heart, O Elohim, And renew within me an established spirit."
Psa 51:11 O do not fling me from Your presence, And do not take Your holy spirit from me."
Psa 51:12 Do restore to me the elation of Your salvation, And stabilize me with a willing spirit."
Psa 51:13 Let me teach transgressors Your ways, That sinners may return to You."
Psa 51:14 Rescue me from bloodguilt, O Elohim, the Elohim of my salvation, That my tongue may be jubilant at Your righteousness."
Psa 51:15 O Yahweh, open my lips, That my mouth may tell forth Your praise."
Psa 51:16 For You are not delighting in sacrifice, that I should give it; An ascent approach You are not holding dear."
Psa 51:17 The sacrifices to Elohim are a broken spirit; A broken and crushed heart, O Elohim, You shall not despise."
Psa 51:18 In Your benevolence, bring good to Zion; Build up the walls of Jerusalem."
Psa 51:19 Then You shall delight in righteous sacrifices, ascent approach and wholly fumed offering; Then young bulls shall be offered up on Your altar. Permanent"

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38,39

if I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  Psalm 139:8

For the Lord will not cast off for ever: but though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.  Lamentations 3:31-32

God's blessings and comfort to our sister.  In Yeshua's name.

Thanks everyone.  I would appreciate my mother in your prayers.

My mother attempted suicide the night after this post.  She is currently in critical condition, on a ventilator and in desperate need of prayer.

Molly

oh, Shawn.  I'm so sorry.

Why is she so depressed?

I'll pray for her right now.

That is the question I can't seem to figure out.  What I know is my mother was always a high functioning bi-polar.  She was an art teacher then later a principle.  She was my spiritual mentor, not only teaching me by words but by example.  She was a terrific mother.  But, we did grow up in a strict Nazarene environment...many rules and traditional ideas...many of which I had to unlearn as an adult.  She never touched alcohol or drugs.  Somewhere in her 50's she picked up a wine cooler, and told me later after the first drink she knew she was in trouble.  She quickly slid into alcoholism.  Her side of the family is entrenched with alcoholism.  She grew very depressed, attempted suicide several times then eventually was able to quit.  But, for whatever reason she has never been the same...feels like she let God down...disappointed him...let the family down etc.  Her previous attempts in my book were more cries for help than serious attempts.  But, this one is no doubt the real deal...she wishes for death.

I am very glad that even though I didn't get to talk to her in person, I chatted with her via yahoo that day.  I was able to tell her how much I love her, how great of a mom I think she is, and how I know God loves her, forgives her and is not disappointed in her.  I sent her an email later with many verses which I don't think she ever got.  If she does indeed survive, we have no idea how to help her.  Medically speaking everything has been tried...literally everything.  But, in my opinion she has a deep spiritual sickness and with that only a spiritual cure.  Any prayer and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My dad called earlier tonight and said she is off the vent and talking.  It looks like she is out of the woods at least from a physical stand point.  I appreciate your prayers.

Lefein

I will pray for her.

It is all I can do, but, if he could forgive all of mankind, and his murderers at the behest of his beloved son - he can surely answer the prayer of his lesser child for the life of another who does not know what she is doing.

Molly

I pray she gets the help she needs from the hospital now, Shawn.

So sad for you and your mother Shawn...

If you will, ask her if there is something you could do that will make her love you less.
The answer should be "no"
Then tell her you have a message from God:
"There's nothing you could do that will make me love you less."

If she can understand and adopt this, I believe she can be restored.

Part of the issue with my mother is she states she can't feel anything anymore.  She doesn't feel love for herself, her family or for God.  She can't feel his presence or really an emotions of any kind.  You can see the truth of this through her blank and absent affect.

This is the part where I get upset with my own profession in that many times we make these issues worse with medications.  Treating a spiritual sickness with medications IMO is one of the worst things you can do in treatment.  If I had any say so at all, I would wean her off every medication and just let her feel again in a controlled and monitored environment.  She had her first suicide attempt when she was an active alcoholic.  Then she has been heavily medicated since that event.  Even though she has stopped drinking, she has never found sobriety because of physicians trying to do too much...and in the end doing harm.  It's certainly not their intention, I just believe they just don't get it.  My dad won't listen to me as he seems to know best.  I get met with much resistance everytime I make the suggestion.  Take her off ALL meds and see what we have.  Let her feel again...good and bad.  It's the absence of feeling that makes her wish for death.

Ok, we'll pray for this, then.  Seems to me she just needs one doc in charge of her care who advocates the same.  Maybe your dad would listen to him.

don't want to seem crass or nosey, but when it's appropriate, how are things with your mom, Shawn?

She is doing as well as expected.

Shawn I definitely feel for your mother. I have been in a similar place, not being able to feel. It's terrifying, especially not being able to "feel" that wonderful loving feeling that we have for our children. I don't know a whole lot about medication but I know that this happened to me when I became full of self hatred, and also believing that God either didn't care about me or was angry with me. Once UR belief started seeping through my soul and I was corrected on my misunderstandings about God my feelings started to come back. I can't say i'm 100% yet but I have every confidence that I will get there. I don't know if this is what happened to your Mom but I am praying that she will really come to know God's love for her and that she can love herself as well. And I am praying for you also because I know this can't be easy.  :HeartThrob: Love and prayers to my brother in Christ.
