Personal bias, but are the scriptures really not so friendly to Fundamentalists?

lol, I grew up in EXTREME "fundie" churches as a preacher's kid!   I've thought the same thing you're saying multiple times before, in that, I really think some who have not had the actual experiences/personally been in the situation can sort of assume things, go off something they've heard and exaggerate it to "then that's the way it is".    On the other hand, I have seen some religious abuse (almost always by well-meaning people but confused themselves - honestly thinking they're doing the right thing) and I know some have in fact been in some pretty judgmental and even abusive situations.  But I still think the assuming and guessing goes on.  (for example, there are many different beliefs among Baptists, or Pentecostals, many different personalities in preachers, etc.  It ranges from extreme conservatism to extreme liberalism, with tons in between).  Not necessarily a broad brush can paint it all, IMO.

Paul, the apostle, was convinced he was doing the right thing legally when he was out to kill people who were not right in the actions or beliefs.
He was truly converted as an example that no matter how serious you are in your beliefs, when it is your time you will be shown the truth.
The interesting part of his conversion is when Christ says;
" Why are you persecuting Me?"
Paul did not know about the resurrection of Christ until then, and Paul was not given any say in his conversion. Plus the people he was dealing with were as a type of what being
" In Christ  " means.
The baptist church I grew up in did not make any of those little observations.
Paul in Galations 1;111,12  " For I make known to you, brethren, as to the glad-message which was announced by me, that it is NOT after man; for neither from man did I accept it nor was I taught it, but through a revealing of Jesus Christ."
vs 15-18 " But when God, Who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me through His favour, was well pleased to reveal His Son in me that I might announce the glad-message among the nations,
straight away I conferred NOT with flesh and blood, neither went I up to Jerusalem to them who were apostles before me,
but I went away into Arabia and again returned to Damascus. Then after 3 years I went to Jerusalem to become aquainted with Cephas and tarried with him for 15 days;"

Paul's conversion was a truly mystical experience.  He describes the revealing of the Son as happening 'in me.'   I believe he is describing here what happened to him on the road to Damascus--to reveal his Son in me--that it was happening inside of him, but it was so dramatic, that those with him witnessed it as well.

9And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
--Acts 22

Yes, he deals with us personally.  But, even though it happens to us, and in us,  our personal experience with him is to be as a witness to the nations. 

1 John 1:3

3 We announce to you what we have seen and heard. We do it so you can share life together with us. And we share life with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
